Quite a place!

Some of the earliest period in American colonial history in the largest of the original 13 colonies is beautifully preserved and displayed at Fort Frederica.

I was on a bus tour of St. Simons Island so our time was limited but I was so glad we stopped. It was an interesting place to learn more about our nation's early history.

Very nice self guided walk around the moss covered oaks! It's stunningly beautiful here. There are lots of information boards posted all through out giving accounts of the villagers who onced lived here. The park also had guides in uniform while we were visiting and they enjoyed speaking folks along the way telling stories too. The park is working on... More

We purchased a National Parks Passport Book a couple of years ago and just had to stop by and get our cancellation stamps. We received a whole lot more than we had planned! We got our books stamped and then watched the ~30 minute video about Ft. Frederica. I never knew so much history took place in such a short... More

In the middle of the 18th century Georgia was established partially to buffer the mid-Atlantic colonies from the Spanish to the south in Florida. Spain wanted the Carolina lands and it was at Fort Frederica that they were beaten in battle and Spain essentially gave up hope of conquering the British. Interesting NPS site which is essentially an archaeological park... More

We made it a point to visit Fort Frederica on our recent visit to St. Simons Island and really enjoyed the history. Don’t forget to see the short movie before you walk around the ruins. We found it interesting that each street in the old village has a modern street sign and the occupations of the home owners have been... More

This is a good visit if you like American history. It is one of the earlier forts built on the Atlantic coast. Make sure to watch the film in the visitor center. You can see most of this in about 1 and half hours.

Fort Frederica is a beautiful site with a very interesting history. There is a very informative film (30 min) that tells the history of the island. The best part of the trip for us was the junior ranger program. My daughters (4 and 6) were a little young for some of the activities, but my son, 8, was very engaged.... More

A neat place that is full of history. Learn the story of the fort to see how it affected US history. Things may have been very different without the existence of this place.
