The structure survived Sherman's March to the Sea, and in fact, was used by General Sherman as his headquarters during the War Between The States. It is a beautiful Greek Revival building that now houses a museum, and is associated with the Smithsonian Institution.

The building has housed more than just governors of Georgia, including the Georgia Military College. It is a nicely done tour; there is a little gift shop (Educational Building) where you start with a video about the mansion. From there you get a guided tour of the beautifully furnished rooms. Grounds are not large, so most of time is spent... More

This magnificent mansion is worth a visit at any time of the year, but the holidays makes a visit a must. We took the holiday tour and were treated to not only beautiful decorations but also a wonderful choir performance as well. The multistory Christmas tree is knock out gorgeous.

Really loved the place. The grandkids especially loved the indoor pools With the slides and even the miniature golf.

Management response:

Thank you for the review but unfortunately, I think you have us mixed up with another place. The water slides and miniature golf do sound fun but we do not have those at The Old Governor's Mansion. More

We have visited the mansion twice, but the Christmas tour was really lovely. Not only were the trees and house decorated in period garb but traditions such as the stringing of gifts in the children's room were featured and explained. Any history buff would enjoy it.

Each time I visit the Old Govenor's Mansion, I am impressed with the quality restoration as well as the knowledge the tour guide offers. They offer many different occasions to visit and view different items throughout the year. As my... More

My 83 year-old mother and I both enjoyed the tour. The docent was very well informed and let us go along at a slow pace. Very informative and interesting. Great way to spend an hour.

Grace, our student tour guide ( who did an excellent job), led us on an interesting tour of the old mansion, and it was in good shape. We didn't learn that much history but saw some original and period pieces. I found the Governor's office to be the most interesting. The tour is about 30 minutes and has an excellent... More

A remarkable restoration, totally worth the visit. One of the most historic buildings in the state, the degree of restoration, the historic interpretation of the furnishings and the knowledgeable guide make this worth the visit, even for non-historians. The degree of preservation is outstanding, considering the age and perilous times that the Mansion endured, and the overall experience is on... More

The film at the start of the tour is a hoot because it is so amateurish--Lol! On the other hand, once you get into the mansion, the docent does a great job showcasing the home's historical features. Great little tour. Worth it!
