If you understand the historic appeal of visiting cemeteries, then you don't want to miss this one. So many o the confederate dead were brought here from battle throughout north Georgia and Tennessee. There are also many important people and pioneers of this county and city, as well as people who had amazing or tragic stories. Like Mary Phagan, of... More

First, it was very hard to find the entrance to the cemetery. We just kept driving around until we found it. It's not the most attractive historic cemetery we've been to but if you are a Civil War buff it should be of interest to you. It was established in 1863 and the bodies of the dead from the Battle... This location is interesting if you're into Civil War sites or history. There are displays and monuments that are informative. It does seem to be a little unkempt and finding the entrance can be difficult. Worth a visit.

You really have to have an understanding of the civil war from a military standpoint, to enjoy this place, but we always go back.

It could use a little TLC, but what cemetery couldn't? A must see for Civil War buffs, history buffs, those seeking to honor ALL patriots, etc. The display outside the cemetery listing the by unit, location, is very well done.

First, it's very hard to find the entrance so I advise caution. There is a ton of history here but it makes me sad that the cemetery isn't kept better.

Interesting and beautiful walk through essentially two cemeteries both dedicated to fallen soldiers killed in the series of engagements in the Battle of Marietta and Confederate veterans and their family members. The known dead 's are inscribed on walls while the thousands of other unknowns are interred in Confederate state sections. While not a supporter of a Confederate flag flying... More

My daughter and I visited the Marietta Confederate Cemetery while hunting for geocaches. We got a very nice Marietta antebellum history lesson while pursuing the clues. Enjoy a visit for the history only or for a clever geocache.
