The first 5 acres phase of our garden opened May 2, 2015. Located on 168 acres of land donated by Charles and Lessie Smithgall, the Garden is destined to be one of the largest and most diverse woodland gardens in the country. Ground was broken in April 2013 on the first 5 acre phase. The Gainesville location is a new destination for connecting with beauty and the natural world. Complete with a visitor center, outdoor gardens, a model train garden and an amphitheater, it will also be a cultural center for the community hosting exciting exhibitions, events, and educational programs. The nationally recognized collections will expand the horticultural palette of Atlanta Botanical Garden. The Garden has already developed a sophisticated horticultural operation and the largest conservation nursery in the Southeast on the property. Endangered plants will be propagated on the site for the conservation program.

This is a nice place to visit and walk around, but would be even better is you rented it for your next party. They hosted some music last summer that filled the neighborhood with songs.

As an extension of the botanical garden IN Atlanta, these gardens in Hall county are a sweet respite from the Day to day that we endure. It is a true hidden treasure!

Great for a short wander, but lacks any real destinations or engagement activities. We came for Mother's Day, and the gardens were beautiful! I consider myself a gardener and enjoyed the variety of plants, but my family walked the trail within an hour and there...More

In search of a trip to the “country,” my wife and I took a trip to what seems like a satellite edition of the Atlanta Botanical Gardens—about an hour drive from Atlanta at 1911 Sweetbay Dr, Gainesville, GA. It is small, nice hiking trails, and...More

An awesome spot for enjoying a walk in the gardens on paved paths and a hike in the woods on packed dirt trails.

The Gainesville location of the Atlanta Botanical Garden offers a unique view of how stunning and varied gardens can be in the north Georgia mountains. When we visited in mid April, the thrift (creeping phlox) was in bloom and created a spectacular display alongside a...More

We discovered this on the last day of our stay in Gainesville, and only regret we didn't find it sooner as we would have visited it again. Downtown Gainesville itself is small, quiet & picturesque. But outside that one small block there is the constant...More
