I found this course to have a lot of high-end features, including beautiful rock formations and waterfalls. However, the concrete cart paths need a lot of maintenance; I thought my molars were going to be knocked loose. The course itself is a little rough around the edges but I didn't find it that bad for January play. The sand traps were in horrible condition due to heavy rains.
I think the course was very scenic and had lots of elevation change, which is typical for the area. Although the greens are generally flat, the second time we played the course the pins were all tucked on the edge of slopes which made me feel like asking, “where is the clown's nose and the windmill?” The ninth hole is especially insane; a short uphill par 5 that makes a left-hand turn from the second landing area straight up over a huge bolder to a smallish tucked green. On our second and last trip there, the pin was tucked front left in about a 6 step by 6 step area at the bottom of a slope which I thought was very stupid.
The practice area was nice. The driving range is okay although in winter you have to hit off of mats. The practice putting only green is large and nice. The short game area down the hill has three bunkers surrounding a dormant common Bermuda green. The folks in the clubhouse were nice and efficient making our reservation and fitting us in and the folks in the 19th hole were great.

I was in the Atlanta area to stay with friends for the NCAA Final Four and to play some good golf. We played St. Marlo as the 2nd out of 4 different courses, and it is an absolutely beautiful layout! The staff was pretty friendly and the course was in very good overall condition for April. I have to say; I have played a lot of courses, and I have never seen such awesome bridges and stonework anywhere. The course is lined with expensive houses, but they are set back far enough that they really don't intrude on your round. The cart girl was probably about the friendliest I have ever encountered and she was just a sweetheart!! I can't wait to come back to Duluth and play St. Marlo again....highly recommended!!

Golf is not fun. It was expensive, cart path only when it should be 90 degrees, no provision for handicapped players and too little water on the course. I felt very controlled by the overly strict observance by the staff to the rules. Granted, rules are very important, but to be constantly reminded of the rules by the staff became annoying. This is NOT a good course for a casual round! We were exhausted by the end of the round.
The staff person behind the desk at the pro shop had a poor attitude.
Honestly, I felt like we were in their way today.
I would not return nor recommend St. Marlow's golf course.

It should be a crime how poorly managed this course is since the layout is among the nicest you will see anywhere.
A 5 hour round is the minimum there and we have experienced 6 hours and 20 minutes on the weekend.
Rangers do nothing and are only seen on the first couple holes, after that forget it.
Conditions and upkeep have sadly deteriorated to that of a budget course.
Go at your own risk, you have been warned.

St. Marlo is a great and challenging course. So much better than the clubs around that are part of the Canongate group. The restaurant is superb, and Hillary, who supervises it is such a joy to be around. She truly makes the entire St. Marlo experience well worth it.

In early October, I attended a wedding rehearsal dinner at the St. Marlo Country Club facility. My friends live in the gated community. The entire event was very elegant…exceptional hors d'oeuvres were served as the guests arrived, there was an open bar, and there was an array of very nice food for dinner. The buffet included salad, chicken, roast pork loin, potatoes, lobster pasta, and yellow zucchini. Dessert was warm peach cobbler with a creamy vanilla ice cream.
The venue is beautiful, inside and out...a perfect place for a special celebration.

This is a middle of the road course with so much potential. The club
is conveniently located between Suwanee and Johns Creek and is smack in the middle of some amazing high end homes. The course is beautifully laid out and as you drive in you think you will have a wonderful experience. In my visit the greens were in rough shape and the pace of play was horribly slow... yet the marshal kept getting on us to pick up the pace. Chatting with other players behind us and at the restaurant said "It's always like this... poorly run". I would call this an average course with so much potential... hopefully things take a turn over the best in the near future. It's a great location and beautiful place.

Great place to live and the houses are just phenominal. I have had the pleasure to going to some events here and they are very well put together.

I play with a large group of players. After the round two weeks ago, I left my clubs with the guys at the caddy shack. After a drink, I drove around and got my clubs, no problem. The next time out I notice they replaced my TaylorMade Slider Driver with the same model and setup, but a different degree and its pretty beatup. I tried the club and can't hit with it. Management should have a talk with these guys!!
Bottom line, don't leave your golf clubs out of sight at St. Marlo GC!!!
