This review will benefit those who plan a day of biking on the island. If your goal is to see as much as possible with doing a pick up truck tour then biking is the way to go. That said it's not always easy biking. First on the main road if it's hasn't rained in awhile the sand can sink... More

This was my first outdoor, primitive camping adventure, so I was a little nervous, but certainly could not let my group know it. My role was to prep our onsite meals. I worried about nighttime creatures getting to our food, but as long as you lock things up properly you are fine. The island is absolutely the most breathtaking experience... More

Beach keepers are like river keepers. They make the best effort to preserve the natural integrity of these delightful water environments. This beach is a testimony to the success of preservation achieved when visitors respect the land. This is an impressive sight. The maritime forest immediately emerges from the beach area. Nothing quite like it.

Beautiful island filled with animals and historic points of interest. Island is 18 miles long, if you are planning on exploring the whole island it is imperative that you schedule a tour of the island prior to visit. Unless you are planning to camp. Camping does require prior reservations. We took the tour of the island with Lands and Legacies... More

empty beaches, wild horses, live oak trees, historic mansions, sand roads, wildlife! This is a remarkable tract of public land, so glad that it is protected as both a National Seashore and a Wilderness Area.

Once we got through the long line to redeem our boat tickets, this was a great excursion -- a fun boat ride to a pristine island with great trails through Spanish moss-draped forests, wild horses, picturesque ruins, and a magnificent, uninhabited beach. A perfect day trip!

You have to take a ferry to get out to the island, get reservations early. You will want to take early ferry out, and late ferry back. Or take camping stuff to stay the night. We did a last minute reservation and could not get on the early ferry, and thus did not have enough time. Bring a camera, very... More
