Visitors are welcome year-round to the Monastery of the Holy Spirit, the inspirational home of Georgia’s Trappist Monks. With more than 2,300 acres of contemplative space, the Monastery is less than an hour from Atlanta’s international airport. The new Monastic Heritage Center – a 17,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art museum – is educational, interactive and kid-friendly. There is also a bonsai garden, store and cafe. At the Abbey Gift Shop, which is the largest Christian bookstore in Georgia, visitors can purchase monk-made biscotti, fruitcake and fudge, all of which the monks sell in an effort to be self-sustaining and feed the local poor. You can also see the Norman Gothic architecture of the Abbey Church and take a quiet stroll along the lake, or spend time in prayer and meditation.

This Monastery reflects a very interesting picture of the lives of Trappist Monks in their religious surroundings. They live, pray and operate simple way of life businesses, such as bread baking, gardening and retail sales of religious articles on the site. They celebrate the Catholic Mass and have special religious retreats for individuals and groups. There is a lovely lake... More

This Holy and Refreshing place is just what a weary soul needs to Be Still, Be Quite and Listen to God. A quiet time to reflect, talk to God and commune in a safe haven. It is not a place of fun, nor of TV's, phones, leave your electronics in the car. Hearing the history and stories of the friars... More

Beautiful grounds. Fantastic gift shop. Quiet, peaceful place for a retreat. The food is very good. This was my first retreat and I look forward to more at this lovely, spiritual monastery.

This is a very nice setting with a great story about the evolution of the monastery. My son and I found it to relaxing and very informative visit. Two of the ~ 30 monks are extroverts and we had a good conversation with both. The ground are quite beautiful. There is a ~15 min video overview of the monasteries history... More

Because I live in Atlanta and have the hectic experience of heavy traffic on a daily basis, along with the rigors of city life, I searched for a temporary change of pace and not only did I find a respite but a chance to get in touch with some important aspects of my persona life. Here you will find as... More

Great place to meditate or pray. Nice staff with a great store and bonsai nursery. They also have a museum built from the original barn that housed the monks when they were building the church. Great walk around the grounds on a walking trail.

Wonderful history of the monastery. Fantastic gift shop. The best of all is the peace of visiting the church. Make sure you walk down to the lake and enjoy a picnic on one of the many tables.
