'A Welsh garden with a Dutch history', Cae Hir is the extraordinary creation of Dutchman Wil Akkermans, whose family history in Dutch horticulture stretches back over 200 years. Covering 6 acres of Welsh hillside, this RHS Partner Garden unites a meandering stream and water garden, species rose garden, bonsai collection, local slate stonework and innovative formal features into one informal and unpredictable whole.

It was our first time to Cae Hir gardens, our first impression a little subdued, the parking facilities are a tad small and on the edge of a busy road, little children be ware. From the car park there's a short walk along the road which has no path, which takes you to the entrance gate and looks like your going... More

.... then this is the place to visit. Although we were there towards the end of the season, its clear this family-run simple garden+tea rooms attraction has been well loved over the years. The gardens are on split levels - so good shoes are a must, but the various themes and views - once you get to the top of... More

I visited these gardens with my family and we were really impressed. The garden was beautifully planted to make use of the steep hill and it was very enjoyable to wander through. There are stunning views of the surrounding countryside and red kites circled overhead. We also had a cream tea in the tea room and it was absolutely delicious.... More

We popped in to end our day and I honestly could have spent all day wandering round this spectacular garden. Our visited started with a cream tea which was prepared promptly and with excellent service. After this delicious treat we debated whether or not we have time to see the garden and I am very glad we decided to! It... More

We visited in early July just after some rain. The garden is very impressive but do note it is on a hill which makes it a good walk. We spent a good hour walking around marvelling at the variety of plants and trees. And when you finish your walk, do try the cream tea. Terrific.

This is a wonderful garden set in 6 acres. From the roadway you are not aware that in the area behind the house is the most wonderful garden I have ever been to. Beautifully set out. This garden was developed by one man with a spade and wheelbarrow. A lifetime's work and is still maintained by the family. We were... More

An amazing 6 acre garden set on the side of a hill with a truly breath-taking variety of trees, shrubs and flowers tastefully set alongside meandering paths, ponds, glades, seats. A bonus is to chat to the one young man who looks after it full-time (son of the man who established the garden 30 years ago from scratch). Small tea-room... More
