the famous temple of Kirtipur. not very clean and nice. good view of the city from the side. u can take some cool pix from here. must visit place if u r at kirtipur.

Bagh Bairab Temple is one of the oldest shrines in Kirtipur is known for the guardian deity, Bhairab in the form of tiger. No entrance fee needed to observed the shrine.👏👏👏👏👏

Bhairab temple are very popular in Nepal among hindu people, worshiping Bhairab provides good luck and progress. The Bagh Bhairab temple has a statue of tiger inside the temple and the tiger has opened mouth but the tongue is missing.
There is a legend popular among the locals that, a shephard lady once put the leaf of Mango tree to make a tongue of tiger. Immediately after getting the tongue, the statue became alive tiger and began to move and ended up eating the same lady. Everybody in Kirtipur was scared and they gathered for the solution and some wise men suggested to call Tantrik for the help. Immediately Tanktik gathered there and performed rituals and were able to take control of the tiger. And immediately one of the tantrik cut the tongue of the tiger, the tiger turned into statue again. Since then no-one in Kirtipur has tried to give the Bagh Bhairab leaf of tongue again.
If you are hindu they will allow you to enter and see the statue, if you are not you can still enjoy the surrounding of the Temple
You can enjoy nice valley view from here, old Newar architecture is present here, outside the temple you can see the statue of Sankhadhar Sakhwa and Deu Pukha (Water Pond) In the temple, you can also see the hanging swords which was used in the battle against the King Prithivi Narayan Shah in Kirtipur.

I first visited 6 years ago, and on returning couldn't help but see the damage caused by the earthquake a few years ago. The architecture is still a wonder, and the displays wonderful, but much has been lost.

The Baghbhairab area is small but ancient place near Kathmandu valley. This place is build in the tip of the small hill side. Which makes it is best place to hang to clean cool air.

Weel, the temple in itself is already quite unique, not many in this style are found in Nepal, but much more than this beautiful temple, the incredible view over the valley and the Himalayas, the unique people and the city as a whole gives you some really nice day to spend. Near to Kathmandu and Patan, it is less touristic and that's also the reason why you should visit this city. Beside no expensive entrance fee and a massive display of art and culture... only missing is some kind of tourist friendly restaurants or accommodations like you find in Patan, where you could stay in a local restored house.. visiting Kirtipur for at least 2 days is my recommendation, especially if there is a festival ongoing!

The temple presents you with the religious culture and tradition of Nepal. From the back side of the temple you can have a nice view of the Kathmandu city. The walk from the Kirtipur market till the temple will take you through a mesmerising walk in culture.
