I took 2.5hrs for immigration clearance on arrival. There were total of 5 counters but only 2 counters were meant for general public queue. Other counters were discretely stamping passports for group arrivals. Hence, travel groups went in fast but the rest of visitors had to wait in a long queue for eternal time. On the contrary, I took just 2 mins to clear immigration upon departure. Could the relevant authorities please look into these problems. I met many service staffs in Batam, from drivers to service staffs at retails and F&B, there were all very friendly people with good service attitudes and efficiencies. Please do not let the poor working conditions at the immigration customs ruined visitors perception of a nice city.

The Batam Ferry Terminal is a really experiencing Terminal. It is really big and huge. Services are proper and nice to be served by their staff. For me and my family it was the first time visiting Batam. And the very first thing to see was the Batam Terminal. I look forward to visit Batam again.

This place is totally chaotic! There were quite a few shops that sells food, titbits, local kueh and kueh lapis. 1st floor, there's a ralph lauren shop, sim card booth, and taxi booth. But what ever you need for food, drinks and local snacks, it can be fulfilled. I also find that the prices in the ferry terminal are inflated, but its good for a quick last min shopping.

one of the many ports I've visited.
this terminal is small but you can find the basic things you need (food, touch of shopping etc).
But the very thing that amazed us was the cleanliness of the are even thought ehre's a lot of people who come and go.

Well if you are a tourist from Singapore and planning to go to Batam just to have visited more asian countries, I highly suggest NOT to go to Batam Ferry Terminal. I went there for a quick massage and and leisure with my tourist cousin. Though she presented her return ticket from Singapore to Philippines to prove that we got no reason to stay long, it was not verified and she was not allowed to enter Indonesia. It doesn't matter if you are telling the truth. Bottom line is they will ask 150 SGD for them to let you pass. To our frustration bec we've already made and paid our hotel booking, we give them what they are asking for and instantly, with no receipt, they will give you the chop. Very bad for tourism. Immigration money making so beware.

Note that the seaport tax is IDR115k or rm40, must be paid at the counter before boarding the ferry. The ticket bought from Malaysia didnt include Indonesian's seaport tax. So, spare your money 😊

We came from Singapore thru Batam Fast Ferry and when we arrived here, CORRUPT IMMIGRATION OFFICIALS will start examining your passport. Filipinos do not require a Visa to enter Indonesia. Official said we require and we need to have a return flight ticket home from SG or Indonesia. We were brought to another room where the other official was SLEEPING. He also discussed the same thing and called an escort for us back to the ferry. The escort said that he can TALK to the officials to let us in. Now I felt that something "financial" will be happening and took us to another room where the money changer is and discussed terms. I did not let him start and asked that we wanted to go back to Singapore instead, He kept on insisting. Dangerous place and I felt unsafe. Be careful and DO NOT GO HERE!

Last month, we visited Singapore, after some days i went to Indonasia (batam) by ferry but when we reached reached batam. My two of friends got entry but my entry was denied even all the documents were completed or i told officer about visa on arrival of India but his behavior was too stupid talked in non-sense manner
After some conversations his terminal staff member took me a corner (store) and told me for $150 singapore dollar
I asked why?
He told if you will not pay this we will put your passport in black list.
Then he took me back at ferry terminal for Go back singapore and again told me
You have to pay $150 dollar if you want to enter in our country
Finally, i gave them
Their miss behave and corrupt system made me frustrated
I would like to suggest to beware these kind of people if you want to go there

My family visited Batam for holiday and took the ferry to Batam Centre Ferry Terminal. We checked in our luggage to make it easier for us as we were travelling with young children. We would like to share that at Batam Centre Ferry Terminal, after clearing the immigration counter (where the passport is stamped), the collection point for check-in luggage is on the right of the luggage screening point just before going out to the public area. Please keep a lookout as the check-in luggage collection point is not obvious and you might miss it.

We want to go to Bantam and will be flying into Singapore. I assume we have to clear customs there and show we have a place to stay paid for in Bantam, but do we have to have a prepaid ticket on the ferry going there to show them also. Looking for a detailed list of what is needed to make the trip go smoothly.

Dear Sir/Mdm,
On 6 Sep 2019, I entered Batam at about 7pm. While I was queuing for immigration clearance, an Indonesian immigration officer pulled me out of the queue and asked me to follow him to a room. He said that I had to give him a bribe of $50 sgd in order to enter Batam otherwise I would be sent back to Singapore. I had no choice but to give him the money as I have already made my hotel booking.
Could you please assist on this matter to prevent such issues from occurring in future again? I would also like to get back my $50 as I think it is unfair for me to pay the bribe.
Regards,
Thong William

Hi, can you share what was your departure & return times? I am hoping to go at a later timing to avoid the queues at customs. Please advise if you know which timing are the best to avoid? I need to go on Nov 30 (sat) & return Dec 1 (Sun). Thank you!

Depending on which part of Batam you are going to, there are many ferry terminals and many different ferry companies so it is best to find out which ferry terminal is nearer to your destination then decide on which ferry terminal. Some ferry companies use fast boat while some use large catamarans which are more stable and comfortable. No problem returning the next day, in fact many people do day trips. However, do note that the last ferry during weekends can be quite full so when you arrive, you might want to check with the ferry company on the timing for the return trip and decide on which timing you would like to take.

Your hotel should be able to tell you the best terminal, and should be able to arrange a car to pick you up!

From Harborside in Singapore, which stop do I get off at in Batam for Batam Central? Is that the main town? I'm just a senior solo person who wants to wander around "Indonesia" for a couple of hours. ;~)

You should take the ferry to Vatam Center. From there you can just about get any part of the city. The ride should take about an hour.

If you go from Singapore all seaport tax is included for two ways.

Indeed easy to buy SIM cards inside the Ferry terminal arrivals hall. Also caution: GRAB drivers are not allowed to pick up any guests around the building !! use pre-arranged fare taxis or walk across to the shopping centre

Will it be pack if I leave batam on a Saturday? During march
Written 31 January 2019
Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and public holidays are always packed. However, at ferry terminal, crowd management is good and you can clear the immigration check then come out in an hour.

Hi All, We want to go LAke toba from Batam. Is there tried to go by ferry before? They says it around 20 hours journey. Any ideas? We don't want to fly, so any bus experience also be appreciated..

I have asked friends in Batam about this. They told me there is no ferry service from Batam to Lake Toba. Probably you can hire a private boat to go there instead.
