Plenty of bargains to be had as long as you batter a bit. Great coffee at a reasonable price considering you get a donut with it at J.Co Coffee. Just make sure you batter the taxi price at the door or the taxi deamons will try and get you.

I had about 2 to 3 hours before my ferry so I spent 1 hour doing a hair treatment at ESKA! :) it's great. There is also a nice movie theatre which has the nicest toilet. We tried the food there and it is reasonably cheap and good. Otherwise, don't expect much for shopping.

It was the first time I was visiting a shopping center in Batam. So we went to Mega Mall. I heard many things about this mall from others. They also gave their feedback.
So when we entered the mall it was huge and big! It was full of shops to do shopping. We also purchased a three day supply for us from a huge shop. And yes the best thing was that it was spacious and clean.

I had just disembarked at the ferry terminal. MY family & I decide to go to Mega Mall to shop. The moment we pushed open the glass door at the 1st floor which is where the overhead bridge links to, we saw a big robot with flashing lights beckoning to us enthusiastically to come & take a photo together. I confirmed with the female security guard who was on duty if I could take a picture with the happy robot. She said "Yes". I was delighted as I thought Mega Mall got a walking mascot to welcome visitors. So I told my daughter to go & stand beside the robot. Just as my daughter was walking towards the robot, I caught a glimpse of a picture of a 10,000 Rp note pasted on both side of its thighs. I thought it was the mall's way of decorating the robot and I should not be overly worried. We took 2 photos & left quickly. Just then, a staff from Baskin Robbin called out to us "Pay money! Pay money!" I turned & looked at him. I thought he was being ridiculous. No one pays money to have a photo taken with a mascot in Singapore. Ever. I walked away. But he called out louder this time "You must pay 10,000 Rp." Ughs! I took out a 10,000 Rp note & got my daughter to pass it to the robot. The robot even had the cheek to wave goodbye to us! I cursed at him in my heart for resorting to such a cheap & despicable way to get money. I was angry with myself for being so naive when I first noticed the 10,000 Rp picture on the robot's thighs. I am also pissed that the staff at Baskin Robin, a reputable ice cream shop, worked hand-in-hand with a scheming robot to pilfer innocent shoppers' money. This is totally unacceptable. Mega Mall, get your act together please.

This unpleasant incident spoiled the first day of my holiday totally.

Young parents, BEWARE of any roving mascots who ask you to take a photo!

After heading to many other popular shopping malls, this was the best. It was insanely convenient as it was just an overhead bridge away from the Batam Centre Ferry Terminal. Great shopping & dining places with authentic Indonesian food like Ayam Penyat on the second floor.

Plenty of food available like A&W, KFC, Wendy, J.co and multiple restaurants selection available. Time zone is located at 3rd level but note that the price start from 4,900 rp and upwards. There a cinema too. Hypermart is located at basement 1 and the household products are cheap, example toothpaste is 9,000rp. Grab car is not allowed in the mall but booking the taxi outside can haggle with the man in charge. Word of advice check grab/gojek rate and then haggle with them, won’t be able get same rate but example the place of destination grab charges 4K and the guy will say 8K but you can haggle and pay 6K otherwise you have to walk out the mall for a distance then can call for grab.

The mall is ok. but.. this area is taxi territory, do not get a grab around this location. the taxi will chase them away or chase after the grab if you board one at their territory.

all the taxis are one gang, every trip is 70,000 rupiah, they use walkie talkie to communicate. my friend broad a grab outside the mall and kena chase by the taxi for 30 minutes, nearly got into a fight.

we are unable to get a grab for half an hour because the grab driver dare not turn in. we have to walk about 6-8 min behind the mall to board the grab. the taxi driver shouted and threaten us when we insist not to get into their taxi.
