We took our 3 and 6 year old on the bike trail for an outdoor Florida riding experience and the Flatwoods trail did not disappoint. Went just after lunch so it wasn’t crowded. I would recommend parking at Morris Bridge over Bruce B Downs entrance with kids. The BBD’s trail head has less shade and has a steeper runoff from the paved trail which intimidated our kids last time we tried the trail.

From Morris Bridge, however, the paved trail is wide open and there is no slopped runoff/swale along the sides. It’s shady coming out of the parking lot to the first water station. (Perfect for the less experienced kids to try back and forth a few times).

The parking lot has clean bathrooms and a water bottle filler station. There are also bike pumps, tools, and a shower head for hosing off equipment if you go “off roading” with a mountain bike. (We kept on the paved road with our road bikes and kids). The 6 year old could do the whole 8 mile loop but the 3 year old we kept it short so as not to wear him out entirely.

Definitely bring sunscreen… any time of year in Florida, you’ll need it although the trail did have some nice shady areas.

There’s a mixture of experience levels on the trail, but everyone was friendly and polite. But know that the faster more experienced riders will zip by you and most likely hit the trail when it opens.

Enjoy what Florida has to offer! We did see birds, a bobcat, and a Florida cottonmouth on the trail! And my son was pretty sure he saw a pig! :-)

We biked the entire 7 miles plus an additional 2 miles in no time at all because the asphalt trail is wide, flat, and smooth. Some folks have said this trail is wooded, but it is not. You have views of wooded areas nearly all the time but the trail is full sun. Restrooms are located at either entrance with parking.

I love going to Flatwoods to run and ride bikes! The wide asphalt path is perfect for everyone and the loop is 7 miles. Water coolers are always ice cold and placed every 1.5 ish miles.

First time at this location I will come back. After heavy rains most of the trails were flooded so could not enjoy it as much. Great location for biking (+7 miles).

Me and hubby go here when we want to ride our bikes or just take a nice long walk and I mean long...there is plenty to see and nice trails. You can do a 11 mile walk...we do it and that’s all we can do for now. Recommend this for couples.

This paved trail offers a 7-mile loop (8.25 starting from the parking lot off Morris Bridge Blvd). The trail is fairly smooth and well maintained with a few water stops available along with way. Be warned that shade is minimal along the path so plan your skate accordingly during the warm weather. We’ve enjoyed this trail many times and have not been disappointed.

Flatwoods Park near New Tampa is a great place to get out and walk or ride a bike. The paved trail is well-maintained and makes a large loop. We've walked much of the loop. Water stations are placed at intervals along with rest stations. There are other hiking trails off the main loop. These are not maintained as well (feral hogs often root them up), but make for a nice shady spur. The paved trail is mostly in full sun so going in the morning or evening is recommended particularly in the summer. We park at New Tampa Nature Park and take that trail into Flatwoods Park. Parking is free there and it's a short shady walk to the main loop.

There are two entrances to this park. We prefer the one off of Bruce B. Downs Blvd. Parking costs $2 but it lasts the entire day and there are clean restrooms and the ranger lives right there in case of emergencies. There is a two mile lead in to the seven mile loop road. From the other entrance it is only a mile but I haven't found that entrance to be as well maintained. We usually walk the two mile spur and back for a healthy four-mile hike. At other times we bike the entire loop for an 11-mile work out. The path is all concrete though there are some spur trails off of the main loop that are not. Though basic the concreted areas are free of potholes so are safe. It is a shared trail so use good manners ... bikers say "passing on your left" and walkers don't hog the entire width to give faster users room to pass safely.

Florida has many beautiful and well maintained parks. This particular park has a beautiful 7seven mile bike trail. Water stations are well stocked. Clean, pretty, worth the trip.
