The shop is a little small but might as well be world renowned. Parking is a little sketchy because you have several places vying for space. The boats are clean and well kept (they're dive boats). The crews are super friendly and very helpful. The dive locations the Capt picked were spot on and great for both new and experienced divers. I wish we had a little more room on the boat but it is what it is, part of the scuba world so to speak.

Captain Bob and Chris was awesome definitely told us the way the dive was gonna happen and what to expect runs a tight ship in the water and out. While I was down in the water they helped my 10 yr old daughter snorkel with the sharks while I was under the boat swimming with them. They both went above and beyond and took the extra time to help her even though the sea was very rough. They made the dive a great experience Thank You!!

Capt Slate diving was one of the best dives ever. The staff was friendly, experienced and professional. They even helped give me with a refresher after being out of the water for several years. The shark and eel adventure was unreal. We had sharks all around us and we were able to touch them. I highly recommend this dive and dive company. Give them a try. You will not be sorry.

We had an incredible week long trip of diving with Slates. Bob was helpful with everything and went above and beyond to make sure everyone was safe, comfortable and had an enjoyable time. Dive sights were all excellent and Capt Hunter and first mate Bob always put us in the best locations and favorable conditions. We can’t wait to go back for another adventure.

Great crew, great dives! Spent a week with these folks and had a fantastic time. Captain Chris making sure everyone is safe and having the best time possible. Mates Dillon and Bob kept us all in line and safe while sharing their knowledge and experience about the wrecks, reefs, and diving in general. You couldn't ask for a nicer, more unassuming crew. While the Lost Continent might be showing her age, trips were smooth and safe. When looking for scuba/snorkeling excursions in the Keys, you want an outfit that is not a cattle-call, but a attentive group that treats you like family. Captain Slate's does not disappoint!

I have been diving with Captain Slate’s for over 10 years! They treat their customers like family instead of just a number. They know the waters they dive and they make sure to protect them.
My daughter and I both earned our Dive Master rating and the training was top notch. I always recommend Captain Slate’s to anyone looking for a dive shop or to advance their training.

The night dive was great! Also the "Creature Feature" on Sunday's was as usual awesome. Capitan Slate, Dylan and Chris are the best. So much fun to be on the boat with them. If you want to have a good time on the boat and in the water I highly recommend going with Capt Slate's, you will not regret it and your going to come back with a fun story to tell. Would give more then 5 stars if I could.

My friends and I have done (2) Saturday afternoon and (2) Sunday morning dives with Captain Slate and crew 3 times now. Every crew person we've met along the way does a great job and provides the best tours. We will continue to come as the reefs have so much marine life to see and the trips are worth the effort and price.

Capt Slate and his crew, Skip, Grant, Dillon were all on board providing great service, entertaining info/history and professional breakdown of each dive. On board also was Fraser, an Emmy award winning underwater filmmaker shooting the entire dive and who presented the footage back at the shop after to returning to the dock. Overall, an excellent experience! You should dive with them when visiting the Florida Keys!

Went diving with my son for three consecutive days in August with Captain Slate's. This diving company was recommended to me by a co-worker. We were hoping to avoid the "cattle call" effect with 25 divers on a single boat, where most of the aquatic life you see during a dive is...other divers. This was perfect, with no more than 6 divers per trip. Captain Dillon did a wonderful job in getting us to some interesting dive locations and maintaining overall responsibility for the trip. Again, before each dive, because of the small number of divers, you can get a personalized briefing on what to do and where to go in each dive location. So by the second day, as soon as the boat would stop, I would ask Captain Dillon where we should go and what to look for. Perfect. You aren't getting that kind of personal attention unless there is a small group. We had Lucy and Carly doing a fantastic job as first mate. We will return.

I was wondering what restrictions you have in place for COVID -19 and if on the snorkelling boats you guys take one boat per party to follow social distancing. Also, how long are your snorkel trips?
Written 27 June 2020
Hey there!
We are wearing masks on the boat (if you wish) and we're disinfecting all rental gear and STILL practicing good hygiene!
Our snorkeling trips are morning and afternoon, approx. 4 hours total with visiting two GREAT sites!

Will you pick up and drop off at my hotel if I stay in the Key Largo area? If not, what are my options for transportation?

We went through Wild Lime Adventures. They picked us up, coordinated the outing with Captain Slate’s including lunch and delivered us back to near Hialeah, FL.

What are the requirements for SCUBA diving?

I also notice that many places want to see that you have done dived I the last two years, otherwise they want you to take a refresher course. I do not remember Captain Slate's policy. If is is a concern then contact the dive shop .

We have gone in the summer and fall and both times have been great for sea life. You see different critters at different times.
