We kind of stumbled across this lovely historical gem on the island. Well maintained, with 10 structures to tour. There is a nice video telling of history the folks who settled and started development on Sanibel. The structures are all furnished with items of the period which makes it most interesting. The general store is filled with fun items to... More

So interesting! Docents were available to expand on the exhibits explaining the history of the island from 1880's.The village has carefully restored and maintained buildings, furnishings, and artifacts that tell the story of Sanibel (my favorites were the entire Sears Catalog Kit houses!).Highly reccomended - this museum is a real treat while on vacation.

A must when you visit Sanibel. Be sure to take the docent guided tour. So much history on Sanibel. Probably not real interesting for young children.

the buildings that have been moved and / or restored are true gems. The newest building though, I don't believe is in keeping with the "historical restoration" mentality. Impresses me as a model building, with little to no historical value per say. Still, it is a good spot to see while on the island for historical value. Each year, it... More

My kids loved the actual buildings outfitted with all the antiques. The school house was my favorite, but they also liked the general store and main house building. The grounds are nicely kept. Good way to get out of the mid-day sun and learn about the tough lives the settlers lived.

We happened to enter just as a tour was getting underway. It was nice to go through the buildings with a knowledgeble docent. The buildings were all moved to this, area from other parts of the island and restored to their original condition. There is AC in only one so try to pick a cool day as we did. We visited... More

I found the village by chance just happened across the sign in the street directing to museum. I was so impressed that I told a neighbour (I'm here on vacation from England) who had lived in the area for many years she had not realised it was there so took her to have a look and on second visit saw...
