This is a good stop for those who are interested in land use and conservation, as well as wildlife. There is a nice observation tower and a number of trails. There is a nice gift shop and display area with a few specimens of local wildlife. It is a good place to see the results of hard work on the... More

We stopped by the visitor center and learned a great deal about the ecosystem and wildlife that comprise Sanibel. The people that support this organization are well informed and passionate about the island. The organization and many volunteers that support SCCF play a critical role in maintaining the environment that makes Sanibel special for all of us to enjoy. In... More

You enjoy the island, right? Well, it doesn't conserve itself. Go over there and give them some of your money. Now that you know this you have to go. If you don't, you are bad and should feel bad, SCCF does great work and there are some limited but terrific educational exhibits at the center. It's also a terrific spot... More

The foundation is the island leader in preserving land and protecting Sanibel's wild life. Visit their nature center and the beautiful Homestead which is the former home of an original settler family. Walk the trails in both places.

The Bailey Homestead Preserve is worth walking or biking through especially at low tide so you can see the wildlife. We saw a whole flock of snowy egrets at a very close range. In a different location is the Natives Landscapes & Garden Center off the bike path along Periwinkle Way. I highly recommend the mangrove honey sold at the... More

Great walking trails, wonderful nature talks and a great overview about the natural world that makes Sanibel Island such a great place to visit. This foundation should be on the "must visit" list for those who enjoy ecology, nature, and being outdoors. Bring your binoculars and take time to walk the trails to observe the wildlife. Sit in on some... More

We almost always enjoy this favorite stop. This time the trails were totally overgrown. If we hadn't been there before there were spots that we would have missed the trail. what happened?

We visited the new location for plant sales off Periwinkle Drive. We were amazed at the space and the selection. We noticed what seemed to be a teaching area to explain to visitors how to respect nesting birds, nesting turtles, and other wildlife. This area wasn't fully developed when we were there, but we find the concept intriguing and hope... More

The grounds are lovely, even better are the people associated with this group. We had one of their volunteers as our guide on a dolphin cruise, older man, dry sense of humor who made what would have otherwise been a very routine experience into a very informative and entertaining one. I was amazed the extent of his dolphin knowledge, he... More

We had never paid much attention to SCCF until this visit to Sanibel, when we visited their Nature Center, walked the Center's trails, stopped at the butterfly house, and realized how much they did to protect the island. The walks were lovely (through marsh, along a slough called the Sanibel River, amid local flora we'd never see elsewhere. We also... More
