Six of us spent nearly four hours, mostly outside, at this wonderful nature preserve in S. St. Petersburg. There are nearly five miles of land, lake and trails with beautiful birds, alligators, rare turtles and a variety of trees and vegetation. We had a tram tour with a delightful volunteer who was also a bird expert, which was our great... More

We were able to get in about a 4 mile walk, pretty much following the 5 k route at Boyd Hill and then expanding it onto other trails. Admission is a modest $3.00 per person, which I am sure helps pay for the lovely education center. The person who took our entry fee provided us with a map of the... More

We visited Boyd Hill last week and had an amazing experience, it offers a great experience and is great value for money. We did the tram tour and were amazed at how much we learnt. A great day out for all the family.

I enjoyed joining the St. Petersburg Audubon Society for their monthly, first-Saturday bird walk. Despite sporadic light rain, we saw a nice assortment of local and migrant birds, 38 species in 3 hours, including Northern Waterthrush, Common Yellowthroat, American Redstart, Northern Parula, and other warblers: Golden-winged, Blue-winged, Black-and-White, Tennessee, Hooded, Magnolia, Chestnut-sided, Black-throated Blue, Black-throated Green, Pine, and Prairie. Really... More

Enjoy bike riding through this park. Great for bird watching. They also offer educational sessions. Seeing the birds they rehab is fun!

After visiting our exciting, artsy downtown and some of the many restaurants, take a break and visit Boyd Hill Nature Trail. This 400 plus acres, on the edge of the city's largest lake, is untouched scrubland and pine trees filled with Old Florida's wildlife: alligators, gopher turtles, and birds of prey, to name just some. There are boardwalks, walking and... More

We really enjoyed checking this place out. Nice quiet nature walk within eyesight of downtown St Petersburg. My sons were hoping to see gators in the wild and we're thrilled to find a number of young ones hiding out in the shallows. There are a number of water stations on the trails and many informational markers to let you know... More

We drove in c. 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning, met very helpful and cheerful Ginger, asked for 10:00 a.m. guided tram-ride, and went trail-hiking. Got back to aviary in time to view rescued bald eagle, vultures, hawks, and owls. Toured interesting museum, then Dick arrived (drove down in response to last-minute call - Thanks, Dick!) and took us and some other... More

Boyd Hill Nature Preserve is a way to experience Florida hiking trails through several different types of habitat, including along a large lake. If you don't have time to drive to the wilder parts of Florida, you will have an enjoyable short hiking experience in this part. There is a nature center with interesting displays, as well as periodic nature... More
