This seems much farther from the busy city than you would expect. We enjoyed the walk along the extensive boardwalk through the mangrove forest but there really wasn't a lot to see. We saw a few birds but no mammals and the views were really just thick vegetation and small lagoons. The cultural centre is not open every day and... More

Weedon Island is a bit off the beaten path which is what makes it great. It has beautiful surrounding, there are a variety of birds to see. Depending on where you are in the park, you might see a gator, snakes or turtles sunning themselves. The park is also a good place to exercise. Or your can unleash your creative... More

Besides an excellent visitors center, kayaking is wonderful here and bird watchers will think they have died and gone to Heaven. Great hikes for all ages.

Arrived early afternoon with mother and her friends. The plan was that I was going to kayak and they were going to walk the trails. Went to rent a kayak ( all rentals thru Sweetwater Kayaks on site--10% off coupon available at their store on Gandy Blvd) Cost was $40 (before coupon) for the afternoon. No parking at rental site... I always enjoy paddling in the Weedon Island area. If the tide is high (check the tides before you go) you can paddle the entire marked canoe trail. There is a tree canopy on lots of the trail so it is great any time of year. The put in area is very nice and there are clean restroom facilities. Parking... More

I didn't have the time to kayak but I did walk the trail by the nature center. The trial can take 30-60 minutes depending on your pace. It has a couple good overlooks. There's little tiny black crabs on the trees on posts but they scurry away quickly. This is a good place to go look at the scenery for... More

This just goes to show how you can be in the city life one minute and less than 20 minutes later be surrounded by flora and fauna of Florida. Having grown up in the panhandle, I have always love exploring the natural beauty of the woods in other parts of the state. Here, you can explore on very nice wood... More
