Description:

Located in historic St. Augustine, Florida, Memorial Presbyterian Church is...

Located in historic St. Augustine, Florida, Memorial Presbyterian Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). We are not just any church. We are Florida's first Presbyterian congregation, established in 1824. CNN has named us one of the eight religious wonders in the United States. The present sanctuary was given by Henry Morrison Flagler and dedicated in 1890 as a memorial to his daughter Jenny Louise Benedict who died from complications from childbirth. Mr. Flagler, his first wife, Mary, daughter Jenny Louise and granddaughter, Marjorie, are entombed in the Flagler family mausoleum at Memorial. The church is open for visitors Monday-Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Enjoy a tour of the church by one of our trained docents during the week and then return on Sunday to join us in worship. Our visitors come from across the state, the nation, and the world.

There's only one word to describe this church: Stunning. From the original hand carved mahogany wood, to the stained glass windows, the hand carved marble to the family memorial. It is worth the step off the trolley to venture inside & take in the beauty for yourself.

One only has to walk into this church and your imagination will see people from a grander generation dressed in their Sunday finest as they worship. This Methodist church is not like many I have visited, in some ways it has a more Cathedral feel. Beautiful woodwork and gilded ceilings with lovely stained glass windows, even on made by Tiffany.... Architecture and magnificent art work. The stained glass is exquisite, The docent was very informative and friendly, providing not only historical facts but current information about this active church.

This church does NOT charge for tours, it is free. Any company that is selling tickets or insinuating a deal to get into this church are thieves. However, it was closed today, 5/28/2016. No,explanation was available.

We regret the Sanctuary was closed during your recent visit. Though we are open Monday through Saturday from 11AM - 3:45PM to visitors, there are times when we close for Funeral/Memorial Services for our members. That was the case during your visit. Thank you for your review and apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment our closure may have caused you. More

The most excellently preservation of an old century house of worship. Beautifully maintained and still active. The guides are excellent and flash pics are allowed. A must see.

We stopped in for a service over the weekend and enjoyed hearing the choir and organ music in the loft. The acoustics in this old church are great. Flagler poured a lot of money into it, and it still retains a lot of the richness of his day. Air conditioned for modern convenience, and service was only about an hour.... More

Henry Flagler created this church to honor the memory of his daughter, who died after giving childbirth, and her daughter, who only lived 6 hours. It's hard to believe that it was completed in less than a year given the spectacular architure and stained glass windows. All 3 of them are buried in the adjoining crypt.

Flagler created a beatiful place to worship when he built this to honor his deceased daughter. The architectural highlights and Tiffany Windows make this a must see.

The church would be well worth visiting simply for it's architecture alone, but the church also has exhibits about Flagler in various areas of the church. Just behind Flagler College, it's certainly with the stop. The docents were very welcoming and enjoyed sharing info about both the church and Flagler-and it's a good spot to sit for a few minutes...
