There actually is some history there, with beautiful old houses, courtyards and cool architecture. There are houses and buildings to tour and even some nice shops. I only found one shop, however, that specifically housed local craftspeople/artists, and that was disappointing. There are many places to grab your kids attention for snacks and tourist trinkets. Take to the streets in St. A. Each one is a bit different with quaint houses, pocket gardens, churches, tucked away restaurants and shops, even some brick roads. We spent 2 hours rambling about, stopped for a bite to eat then went to the Lightner museum. Certainly you can see this area in your car, but the roads are narrow, many... More

We of course had to visit the old town. A lot of it is just shops and restaurants. Nice but not my choice of spending the day. I would suggest driving over to the Flagler College edge of the old town. It is easy to park in the street there. The old buildings are lovely. We did not tour anywhere... More

Beautiful old buildings seeping with history and charm. Unfortunately, half of those buildings are ice cream and fudge shops. Bus loads of kids and families crowd the area looking for trinkets and T-shirts. Good example of how to ruin a good thing.

St. Augustine, FL historic district is a must see. The oldest city in the U.S. and so much preserved. In addition, shaded cobblestone streets, really old historic buildings still functioning. And, the usual tourist shops, ice cream and candy shops, which are also good for a snack as you explore history, and the shops do not distract from the history.... More

They have done a nice job preserving and recreating the history of St. Augustine. We found the site clean, walkable and the staff were informative and helpful.

I recently spent several days in St. Augustine's for the holidays. Unfortunately the temperature was not in our favor, so after returning to our hotel the Casa Monica to put on some warm clothes...we set out to discover a quaint, but beautiful city nestled along a body of water. We stopped at an art gallery and then entered a shop... More
