- Lisa GSan Antonio, Texas107 contributionsGo for the ArchitectureEnjoyed walking around and seeing the architecture on our first visit to St Augustine. The old streets, buildings and churches are worth the visit. We felt safe and were not accosted by any of the homeless we saw. There are ice cream shops and coffee/bakery shops along with shopping. Nice area to stroll and shop if you are inclined to.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 19 June 2024
- 🇧🇷🇺🇸🇩🇪🇵🇹🇲🇦Helena VillalbaCampinas, SP762 contributionsShopping, restaurants and fast food along with more cemetery stories. Unforgettable tourA street filled with many restaurants, souvenir shops, fast foods, ice cream shops, among old houses that were part of the time. It is worth a walk in the afternoon, some shops close at 17:00. It has a small pizzeria (I forgot the name) but reminds the pizzeria of Italy, very good pizzas and good price!!ah only accept money.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 July 2024
- laura sMedellin, Colombia4 contributionsHis storyIt is a special place to enjoy with the family. Good restaurants and the people are very warm. I recommend NOT using horse carriages to tour the city. I was attentive to their route and believe me, it is too much for so many people who take these horses! People are not considerate and their work time is too much just for their benefit. I recommend using tourist companies, such as bicycles that are super fun. Do not mistreat animals, more awareness and empathy, Thank you for reading me.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 31 August 2024
- Darlene M20 contributionsLove St. AugustineThis was our 3rd time to St. Augustine. We love the old town with all the history. We went during Thanksgiving and met up with other family members. The Night of Lights was amazing; it was absolutely beautiful!!! The down side is that it was extremely busy. The stores, restaurants, and the fort were hard to get into because of the amount of people. We will definitely go again, but maybe at a later date when it isn't as busy.Visited November 2024Travelled with familyWritten 1 December 2024

This is a small 5 building city with a unique spicery, old jail and the location for bus tours.I would look at the overall pricing for the tours and buy the only ones that you can’t walk to. The night ghost tour us the best.

I was so impressed with the beauty of this city that I had to extend my stay here. I arrived at night and saw the beautiful lights adorning the central part of the city. The old town is walkable so I was able to leave my car at the motel and walk around and sightsee all day. Many of he establishments are pet friendly as well. The food is delicious and the historical sites are impressive. Day time and dinner time can get crowded with tourists and the typical trolley/train tours through the city. Highly recommend

St. Augustine's historic center is very well set up to accommodate visitors with an interest in history. There is the predictable tourist-oriented kitsch but there is also a vibrant story here and it's told very well through plaques on important landmarks and maps and brochures at the city's several visitor centers. These centers are a must stop - be sure to grab a couple of maps so you don't miss anything. The historic district is compact and can be easily walked in a day, but deserves more time to dig in to the colorful story. It's really well organized.

The City Council of St Augustine is tearing down history!
I am a wedding planner and coordinated a wedding in St Augustine one year ago which generated thousands of dollars total revenue for the city of Saint Augustine. Reading in the paper that the mayor and city council are tearing down a historical veteran Monument with veterans buried underneath it's very disturbing. One of the most precious things about staying Augustine is its charm and the history and maintaining all of it not picking and choosing to tear down some of it to rewrite history. I will no longer visit St Augustine nor will I recommend any of my clients to have their wedding there. I'm sorry things are so turbulent and the oldest city in American history. Tearing down anything that was put there by our ancestors is very disappointing. You are ruining the charm St Augustine.

Tons of little shops and restaurants and history. If you've been to Spain or any coastal European town you've been to St Augustine. I would not say it has much charm as it has been taken over by tours/guides and the horrible "Ripleys Believe it or not Museum". The oldest city in the US and home to the oldest buildings. If you can't travel to Europe than we highly suggest you visit St Augustine.

Although most of the buildings are quite new, they are built to resemble the way the city used to look. There are some old homes and museums to visit. Everything was very clean and neat. The Christmas lights were still up in January so it looked very festive in the old city. It is very walkable but there are trams you can use for a fee.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn on St. Augustine Beach which was no more than a 5 minute drive to Old City of St. Augustine. An amazing place to stroll on a warm January day wit ample restaurants, shops and amazing historical locations to explore. The alleys are also fun places to stroll as the old structures are unprecedented.

3 family members on our journey. Thought the trolley tour would be the best way to see the attractions. Would have been ok if they had an English speaking your guide. It was a bit of time before I realized that "moosim" was a museum. This shouldn't happen. Everything was an upsell. Not good.
The jail your went okay, the guide was very good. A few people did walk out. The Wax museum was worth the time, but others stops were a waste of time.
As a day trip we did hop off near the wax museum and had lunch. Not recommended. Service was fine, but the food wasn't. 1 hot dog, 2 burgers 45.00 dollars. As stated the food wasn't the best.
St Augustine has to temper their upselling and improve in many areas of their adventure. Just be prepared. They are the home of "Ripley Believe it or Not", obviously they followed it's lead.

A nice place to walk around and see the shops and restaurants. Brick streets and lots of vendors. The city really needs to do something about the homeless people lying around the businesses panhandling in the old quarter.

Great place to walk and see many sights. Lots of shopping and galleries. Be sure to stop by the visitor center for helpful information. We enjoyed learning about the role the city played during the civil rights movement.

Are most shops in the Old City area open in the evenings or do they close around 5-6 PM?
Written 23 April 2022
When we were there most were open at least for a bit after we ate dinner.
Written 26 April 2022
We were parked at the hotel, and took the trolley service to get there.

What are the beaches like, compared to, lets say South Beach in Miami? Can you swim in the ocean or it is more adequate for surfing?
Written 12 January 2019
Really nice clean beaches not commercialized. The weather is great for swimming. I don't surf so I don't know about that.

What can a tourist see and where to eat with a small dog?
Written 9 February 2018
Dogs can go everywhere outside as far as I know
Written 10 February 2018
Of course! Best without a tour so you can wander around and explore at your own pace.

The last time we visited, the parking was awful. How is it now? Where is the best place to park for the Colonial Quarter and Castillo de San Marcos?
Written 24 June 2016
I agree Parking is a problem. I parked at our hotel which was near a trolley stop and that eliminate the problem. The green trolley has a free parking lot (if you buy a ticket) along US1, De Leon Dr, just south of route 16. Probably your best bet.
