A very nice museum with very nice staff. We arrived at the museum at 11:30 and talked with a young lady at the front desk after we got through the door. We told her that we knew that they closed the museum from 12:00 - 1:00 daily and that we would respect that and leave and return at that time.
She promptly told us that it was fine if we stayed during the lunch break. Thought that was a really nice touch. The museum, although not huge, is well thought out and laid out well.
There were a number of very interesting displays and exhibits that we really enjoyed looking at.
Did I mention that it’s a free museum and there’s free parking, too? There’s nothing not to like.
We spent a few hours here and had a nice time.
Definitely would recommend this museum!

The museum is not your typical one. It has a dinosaur along with its newest attraction with the feel and life of the Everglades which is interactive. They have the original fire truck of the city of Plantation as well as life of the early Seminole Indians. It has some hands on exhibits and it changes the exhibits several times during the year. The best part of spending a few hours touring it is that it is free. You can call ahead for guided tour groups and it is especially geared to children. At Christmas time they exhibit 40 plus trees. This summer they are showing electric trains.

The historical museum had its humble beginnings in a back room of city hall. In 1985 the museum opened behind the library in the Plantation Botanical Gardens. The museum contains an annex dedicated to the history of the Plantation fire department.
Permanent displays in the museum include exhibits on the Tequesta and Seminole Indians, fire and police department memorabilia, an Everglades diorama, and information about the towns founding families. The museum also hosts temporary exhibits. The current one, America in the 1960's will be on display until October 5, 2019. The museum hosts many events and speakers throughout the year. A complete schedule can be found on the museum's website. Admission to the museum is free.

The museum is hard to find. We parked at the back of the library and saw a small weathered sign indicating “museum”. This could be much better. We followed the brick walk way and ASSUMED we were heading in the right direction. We read the computer printout on the door that indicated we were in the correct place. Again - could be improved.
The curator was kind and knowledgeable and greeted us as we walked in. The museum was much larger, more organized and cleaner than we expected.
It was a mix of truly historical artifacts and cheesy mannequins. There was a local fire department history which is interesting if you like that sort of thing.
There was also a display of local wildlife and indigenous people culture- none if which I think was authentic. But informative nonetheless. My 6 year old enjoyed it.
The gem of the museum was the WWI displays. I had never seen WWI artifacts or displays so I was very happy with it. There were many German artifacts which were interesting to see.
My son liked the pup tent, trench display, the donuts display and a real working telegraph machine.
What was very surprising was the weirdly out of place psychedelic posters of dinosaurs within the WWI displays.
Again- most displays had computer printouts of pictures and information. This cheapened the displays considerably.

This is a small, quaint museum with focus on the history of the city and other rotating exhibits. When I was there, this exhibit was about WWI. It took about 45 minutes to see everything. Very informative for its size and free admission.

This museum is a nice bit of history about the city of Plantation. Located near the Helen B Hoffman library tucked away in old Plantation. It has some unique information for anyone who lives here. Nice for an afternoon with the kids. The fire trucks they sometimes display are great for little ones as well as there Christmas tree displays around holiday time.

Tuck away in back of the Plantation Library, most people don't even know this little museum exists. Which is a pity because it is great. Tiny but with ever changing exhibits that are tied to the city in some fashion.
Xmas tree displays, historical city pics and equipment; wwII from eyes of local vets.
Always interesting and FREE.

You must visit the Plantation Historical Museum. From Dinosaurs to modern day there is something of interest for the whole family. The staff is very gracious and knowledgeable, and ready to give you a tour or answer questions. We were there during a dinosaur exhibition and it was very informative. The Museum is not just Plantation history, but a compendium of South Fla. history. It was also free, so that's a pretty good deal.

While visiting family we stopped by the museum which was down the road from the house. The staff was friendly and there was a model train show going on. We all enjoyed the train show as well as the displays through out the museum. The rating would be higher if there was more to do, but with its limited space, the museum had enough displays with informative information.

This is a free museum, staff by knowledgeable volunteers that's worth a visit.
Because of the time of the year there was a big display of Christmas trees that had been decorated by volunteers.
