About Tradition Fishing Charters
Tradition Fishing Charters was started out of a lifelong passion for fishing by Captain Miles Howell. Capt. Miles started fishing with his Dad at a very young age, competing and winning in local tournaments. Miles then started working as a deckhand in the local charter fleet while in high school. Capt. Miles quickly learned that he had a knack for showing people a good time on the water and enjoyed helping them catch fish. This was the beginning of what is now an expanding family business.

Great fishing trip with Captain Mike!! Highly recommend. He took us to a great spot and was very good at teaching us the right way to deep sea fish. He was very fun and joked around with us a lot. He had a very nice boat and gear (no dull hooks 😂) and he was on top of getting us bait every time we ran out. Played great music and let us have our beverages at hand too! And helped us have a smooth ride on the way out and back without getting soaked. Thanks Captain Mike for a great day!!

Went out with Captain Dave. 2 of our 4 person group caught a nice sheepshead. We were the only boat of about 15 that caught any fish. We were also one of the only boats with live shrimp.

We have gone out on chartered private boats for over 20 years. We have mainly gone out of Destin, Mexico and Galveston Texas. This is our first time to try the Orange Beach area. We booked this fishing charter a month before our visit. My wife and I brought 3 college age kids with us and the fishing trip was a big surprise for Monday morning 7/13/20. On Sunday 7/12/20 around 10:30am we drove 40 minutes from our condo to see the marina. Nothing was marked or labeled at Southwind Marina on Sinton Dr Pensacola. I asked a dock worker where the boat slip was. My wife and I walked over to the boat to ask if he was captain Willie. He told us he had 30 minutes of work and only 5 minutes to prep. Very condescending and dismissive. No signs anywhere to indicate the company boat slip. We asked if 5 people could fit on a small 22ft boat. He dismissed us saying he would call. Sunday night, less than 12 hours from our charter Willie calls. He told me that he did not like my attitude and that he was not comfortable taking us out the next morning. I told him that we had looked forward to this for a month. He responded that he had no deck hand. So I asked him if he would be cleaning our fish. He said he always does that and he needed to go, he would call back. I waited over an hour, desperately trying to locate a backup charter. I finally called him and it went straight to voice mail. I called Laurie at the office and she basically supported Willie in that if he was not comfortable with us he did not need to take us out. This is completely unacceptable.

I booked a 4-person, 4-hour inshore charter with Captain David docked in Mahogany Boat Ramp, which proved to be the perfect party size for the 22’ boat. Also, the perfect amount of time as we hit the snapper limit just as we ran out of bait and needed to head back. I was skeptical about how successful we would be leading up to and including the first two hours of the charter as we didn’t even drop lines until about the halfway mark. What I didn’t immediately realize was that Captain David was networking with other captains to get us on the spot, which we definitely did! Once we stopped getting bites (mostly because of dolphins), we would quickly move to another spot and would be reeling the red’s in immediately. We also pulled in two huge mangrove. Captain David’s boat was well kept and handled well on the open-water. All of his rods and tackle were prepared and ready for when the lines were dropped. He ensured everyone had at least reeled in one fish as he kept hooks baited and focused his attention where it was needed. He made quick work of cleaning the reds and they were delicious. Overall, a great experience and I’ll certainly look to book with Tradition and Captain David next time!

We went out with Captain Mike from the Perdido Key location. It was myself and my 13 year old daughter who loves to fish. We had a great time catching our limit of red snapper. If we had scheduled this earlier in our stay, we would have definitely gone again with him later that week! We highly recommend booking a trip with Tradition Fishing Charters!
