Forts are fascinating considering their long standing history and architecture. This one is nicely kept and huge. Great photo opportunities and beautiful scenery. You don't have to be a history or military buff to appreciate what these soldiers lived and survived in. It's kinda amazing.

Great site for a history buff, but not much for young kids. A lot of stairs and basically a bare fort.

Wonderful history of the Fort and surrounding area. Relaxing nature type walk. Would recommend to do on a cloudy or cool day.

Fort Barrancas was a fun adventure. The fort is handmade and very impressive. It is also one of the largest civil war forts I have seen! Glad we took the time to go visit.

We had explored Fort Pickens and the Naval Air Museum, and were having a great day, until we got to Fort Barrancas at 4:05 PM. We were surprised to see that the sign said they close at 4:30 PM, but we at least had time to get in for a quick look. But I was met at the door by... More

Great tour at Fort Barrancas. Ranger Jess was very knowledgeable. So much history and such great construction. It can take a while to get past the check to get on the base, but it's worth it. Fort Barrancas is on the north side of the entrance channel to the bay, and as a result has been the site of Forts guarding the bay when it was controlled by the British, French, Spanish, and finally the Americans. As a result it has a very interesting history. The old small 'water level' white Spanish fort is still there,... More
