We visited midmorning on a cloudy Sunday in March. The boardwalk was quiet but beautiful as it wound through the cypress swamp. We ventured out into the ponds and saw so many wildflowers, great blue heron, snowy egret, moorhens, storks flying overhead, and warblers in the trees. You don't see the numbers of birds that you do a Wakolahatchee in Delray, but it's quiet, peaceful, and unrushed.
The folks at the nature center were very friendly and helpful. Just $10 per car for a day pass.

This is an amazing natural area. We had one of our best hikes here. The air is fresh, nature is abundant, the trail is well marked, and the map is accurate. Let's take good care of our #FloridaNature, people.

Sandhill Crane Park is the access point to Loxahatchee Slough natural area. This area is at the intersection of several bike paths that link to other parts of the county. It has a launch ramp, Parking canal access and a fishing dock with restrooms and pavilion. If you want to get our into mother nature this is a great place to start and safe to park.

This is a very good hiking and bicycle trail by a canal and is perfect for viewing wildlife. Be aware that there is no shade, so it is better during the fall, winter and spring when it is not too hot to walk. If you insist on going during the summer, make sure you have lots of water with you since there is no relief from the heat. I visited the area earlier this month and saw hawks, snail kites and swallow-tailed kites soaring above. I also heard that people have seen barred owls before it gets dark so I will be back over there looking for them when it gets cooler out There are bathrooms in the front and there is also a picnic table. There is also boating and fishing on the canal.

I was in the area for a conference and came by here for a visit on my way out of town. There's a cool picnic table on top of a observation post that I had my lunch at. And then hiked the trail for about 3 hours or so. I did see lots of birds and even a raccoon.
It is advisable to wear sunscreen. I saw the advice didn't do it and regretted it. I was fried at the end of it.
The trail and Canal are very pretty. A good place for a hike but wear a hat and sunscreen.
A water fountain at the trailhead would have been nice. They do have bathrooms but no water found. So bring water.

After trying a new restaurant on PGA Blvd. I planned a walk with my date at this nearby park. Unfortunately there was no shade and it was a mostly sunny day in July so we didn't walk as far as I would have liked. It is a great spot for bird watchers and people who just like to toss in a fishing line. Sunscreen and cold water are needed in summer! Would like to explore further in the cooler weather when we are in the area. Small children could have caught many giant Lubber grasshoppers the day we walked : )

I live very close to the Slough. In fact, the end of PGA BLVD cuts right through it. There are places along the Beeline Highway and PGA where it can accessed. Lots of wildlife, great for birding.

If you love birds and turtles and marshlands and if you like photography then Loxahatchee is for you. The elevated walkway traverses the grounds and provides up close viewing of cranes, ibis and other nesting areas. It's a lovely outing!

lovely area to walk. the south-side of the park (south of PGA Blvd) is basically good for people with walking difficulties/disabilities.

Do I need to purchase tickets in advance for the air boat ride? Are there any options of taking the airboat for longer than 30 minutes without renting the entire boat?
What address do I need to go to ? Is there a website?

I am sorry, but you are referring to the South entrance to Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge at the end of Loxahatchee Rd in Hillsboro, FL (quite a long way away). Loxahatchee Slough is a totally different area in Palm Beach Gardens. There is no entrance fee nor any airboats.
