Amazing this historical monument has survived!

The tomb is behind a playground. The park itself is well-maintained and the bathrooms are very clean. We had to go a bit further than our GPS said to reach the park. Had we turned around as the GPS said, we would have missed it!

This site is on Beach St. just south of City Hall and Ormond Library. It is a preserved sacred burial ground for Tomoka Indians who lived in this area. Just across from the Halifax River

This is an empty lot on a street corner overlooking the Halifax River. At the Southeast corner is a mound with grass growing on it. Nothing much to look at, but the history is interesting. The centuries old midden contains the remains of Native Americans who inhabited the shoreline during pre-Columbian times. Stopping to read the historical marker is worth... More

House.. House.. House.. Burial Mound... Wait, what?! This Burial Mound is from the year 800 A.D. which makes it about 1,000 years older than this country. In the 1980's the jasper who owned the property wanted to level it to build a house. Thank God there were still folks in Florida that had sense. The city bought the property and... More

This is a unique mound in that it is a burial mound. The fact that it was saved from the fate most of these landmarks suffered and preserved is a tribute to the community of Ormond Beach.

Very quiet and peaceful the day we visited. Playground for children and very clean Rest Rooms available. The historic sign was interesting and informative.

This pre-Columbian mound is at the corner of Beach Street and Mound Avenue, across from a beautiful park on the Halifax River. The mound is covered with grass, in a grassy park with benches to sit and view the mound. The ancient mound builders left many mounds in this area, most notably in Tomoka State Park, but this burial mound... More

This is a small park that is dedicated to the history of Ormond Beach. Most people that are looking for it drive right by because they are looking at Ambs Park across the street. Also the setting makes it appear to be the neighbors side yard. As you read the plaque by the road, the history becomes apparent. This mound... More
