Today, my family and I went on The Orlando Eye. Today was also the first day it was open to the public. We were fortunate enough to be on the very first rotation it ever turned during it's soft opening.
Even though we live in Tampa area, I’ve been following the construction of this Ferris wheel for months. At 400’, it is the second tallest wheel in the United States, behind the High Roller in Vegas at 550’. It is currently the fifth tallest worldwide.
Here are 9 things I hope you find helpful!
1. The Orlando Eye is part of iDrive 360. It includes attractions such as the Eye, Sea Life Aquarium and Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum. You can see my reviews for all three of these places as we purchased combined tickets which saved us some money. iDrive 360 also includes a number of restaurants (Yard House, Outback, Carabba’s and more) plus soon-to-be retail outlets as well. It all sits on the former Mercado Mediterranean Shopping Village site on International Drive.
2. If you are arriving by car, look for the multi story parking garage just to the north of the giant wheel. Upon entering the garage, head to the right for valet parking, or stay left to head upstairs for free self-parking. The garage is very large and felt safe. Head down the elevator or stairwell and you’ll find yourself at the foot of the wheel.
3. Upon entering the main building you will find Madame Tussaud’s museum to the far left, the ticket counter for the wheel in front of you on your left hand side, a small food court just to the right and then the Sea Life Aquarium to the far right with a set of restrooms in that direction. Because we already had our tickets printed, we proceeded directly forward where they were scanned and stamped. Right before that happens there is a bag check (no alcohol, weapons, etc.)
4. Upon having your tickets scanned at one of two turnstiles, one person in your group who will be dubbed as the captain will be given a bracelet with a barcode. Your bracelet is scanned and then you will have your picture taken in two different poses in front of one of three green screens. You’ll be directly to continue toward several sets of steps for the 4D cinema experience. Stay on the top level, you’ll thank me later :)
5. The 4D cinema experience is a 4-5 minute long film to basically get you excited about your ride. It’s not a bad film, but do know there are no seats. It is standing only. In addition to your sight and sound, expect a brief, but pleasant scent and a few light squirts of water droplets. When the doors on the opposite side of the theater open you’ll finally be ready to board.
6. Once making your way to the front of the line you’ll be directed to stand in a specific spot depending the number of people are in your group. Unless needed, the wheel does not actually stop. It moves continuously at a slow pace. You get ONE rotation. It takes about 17 minutes, they call it 20.
7. Each capsule has a small bench, but is mainly standing room only. They say it can hold 15 people. We had 4 adults and 4 young children and were comfortable. Not a chance you’d want to get in there with 15. The capsules have glass walls from top to bottom. They are very dark looking from the outside, but only slightly tinted inside. It is air conditioned and all around very pleasant. You can see everything from Disney landmarks to downtown Orlando and everything in between. This would include SeaWorld, Universal Studios and everything International Drive has to offer. Throughout the ride a voice narrated about the area, but she must have been shy because it kept cutting in and out. Soft opening hiccups.
8. As we came down and the doors were about to open, we were visually instructed to stay back from the doors. There is a sign that mentions to stay behind the white line… although there is no white line. Once back on the ground you’ll be directed to the photo area and gift shop.
9. Employees will check the number near your barcode to find your photo album where your two pictures will be waiting for you in a booklet about the area. Cost is $35 for two small prints with digital copies. The gift shop has a number of products for impulsive purchasers ranging from moderately to overly priced.
We all enjoyed our ride (dad, mom, four kids under 7) or as they like to call your flight. We paid $35 per adult and $30 per child (ages 4-12). Our two youngest were free. This was for an advanced online combination ticket for the wheel, aquarium and wax museum. Walk up price for the wheel alone on the day of is $25 but there are several factors that can affect that price. See their website for all the details.
After we got off we headed for the other affiliated attractions (see my reviews there). We also took some time to walk the grounds which are absolutely gorgeous and take more photos. We were very impressed with the employees, hospitality and general customer service. Though a few minor things could be dealt with, I still give our experience 5 stars.
I’ve included many pictures with my review including the building, grounds, the media on site that day, views from the top and much more.

The BIG OE is certainly worth visiting. Besides seeing or riding the Eye, it was a nice evening troll, there is music in some of the restaurants very visible to the people walking to enjoy and a lovely Flamingo dancer in front of the Spanish restaurant, it was just pulling you in to enjoy the evening. Orlando has so many wonderful choices to make a vacation special!

So the Coca-Cola Orlando Eye is amazing. You want to try to get (by random) into the pod with the Coca-Cola logo on it because they have a cooler with 4 ice cold cokes inside which makes the experience just a bit better. Ok. The best time to go is right before 9pm. WHY? because most of the amusement parks have their fireworks at 9pm and you can see them all from the top of the EYE! So try to get on around 8:50pm ... The ride lasts about 23 minutes.... You will love it!

Thank you for visiting the Coca-Cola Orlando Eye. It's great to hear that you were able to enjoy one of our designated Coca-Cola capsules while flying with us. I agree, timing a flight with us to see the fireworks at one of the local theme parks, is a great way to see the beautiful sights of the city. We look forward to seeing you again on a future visit.

Well my kids and I have looked at this attraction since we got here and were really looking forward to it. So today we bought tickets and boarded the Eye.
That was the start of our ordeal, it broke down just as we were over the highest point. We had a tannoy
Announcement tell us there was a problem then NOTHING for ages. I used the intercom to ask how much longer we would be and they said they had a technical problem and it would be fixed. Then another announcement telling us there is safety stuff under the seats!!! Yeh great but no key to open the small hatch under the seat. So my son gave me a 1/4 which done the trick. Once under the seat there is only first aid kit and a harness!!!! No water nothing. The air con was off more than it was on so you can imagine the heat in the green house like capsules we were in. I asked the woman to inform my wife there was a problem but we were ok as I knew she would be worried, she asked her name and I told her, she said she would get in touch with her!! My wife heard not a thing from ANYONE!!! My wife asked what was going on and she was told nothing, she probably had more chance of getting to talk to president Obama!!!
As compo I was give complimentary tickets to madam Tussauds, Sealife and yes you guessed it the Orlando Eye. Eh no thank you. To top it off I missed my movie we planned to watch this evening and also spoiled the rest of my day.

Myself and 3 friends came here for a meet & greet with WWE superstar Bayley.
We arrived just after 1pm and finally reached the front of the line at 3.59pm and were told that "Bayley has to go, WWE won't let her stay". No warning or any indication that the line would be cut off at any point. Clearly they sold too many tickets.
Spoke with a manager to complain, she was both unhelpful and rude. I was told that I would be getting a refund, I pointed out that as I had travelled from the UK I had paid a conversion fee and also the exchange rate had changed so I wouldn't actually be getting a full refund. The manager stated that it was not her problem.
We were given a ride on the Orlando eye, we tried to buy some drinks before this but were told that we could only pay with card. The thought of paying yet another conversion fee did not appeal to me so we decided against making a purchase.
All in all, a complete waste of time and atrocious customer service.

Stephen,
Thank you for the feedback regarding your experience. We were thrilled with the impressive response from many enthusiastic fans arriving for this event - some started lining up very early in the morning! We're truly sorry that not everyone was able to meet the celebrity, and are taking the feedback to ensure we do better in the future. I know this doesn't make up for missing the meet & greet, so I'd love for you to please reach out to OrlandoGuestServices@merlinentertainments.biz so that we can assist you further.
Regards,
Ryan

When purchasing the tickets, we were pressed for time so we asked the ticket person how long the wait was before boarding. He said almost no wait. It was a total lie. It took 30 minutes or so to board.
After boarding, we were stuck with the kids from hell. The evil kids were so distracting that the Eye was a total waste of money. They should have paid us for the experience, instead.
Avoid this ride.

I had eagerly been waiting for the Eye to open. I was given the impression that the attraction was about a thirty minute experience. Living in central Florida I should have realized that meant a ten minute attraction and twenty minutes of trying to get me to spend other money.
We pre-purchased tickets. When we arrived we were told we had to wait in line to pose for pictures. They stand you in front of a green screen and take a bunch of pictures. During the ride they insert backgrounds to your photos and try to sell them to you upon exiting. Then we had to wait about 5 minutes for entrance in to our 3D movie experience. When I asked if we had to see the movie I was told yes, unless one of my children was screaming loudly enough to disturb others, then I could circumvent it.
We were ushered in to long rows in a dark room and handed 3D glasses. I assumed we were watching a video about the Eye, but once again I forgot how touristy tourist is here. The entire video was a stylized ad for other places we could spend money, including all the other attractions owned by the company that owns the Eye.
Afterwards we were directed outside and in to a line to get on a car for the ride. Although it was a very quiet day for business and more than every other car was empty, they insisted that we ride with other people, because, you guessed it, it costs extra if you want a private car.
Inside the car there is only seating for about three people. We were riding with three very large people who took up all the seating, even though I had four children with me (one of whom was terrified and did not want to be anywhere near the edge).
The car was large, nicely tinted and well climate controlled. Having lived here for more than a decade I had a pretty good grasp of what I was looking at. However, from the perspective of someone visiting I can see that it would be disappointing that there was nothing in the car to direct people to look at things or tell them what they were seeing.
The entire ride inside the car was just shy of ten minutes. For myself and four children I paid a little over $100. It was fun to do once, but I can assure you I will NEVER, EVER go back. There are some many other fun and unique experiences that can be had here. I feel like they oversold what you were getting and the length of the ride, and it is just absolutely not worth the price.

Thank you for providing us with some feedback regarding your visit to The Orlando Eye.
I'm sorry your visit fell short of your expectations. I wanted to add some clarification to some points you raised in your review. The full rotation of the wheel takes a minimum of 21 minutes as the wheel's maximum speed is under a half meter per second. Additionally, we do not require our guests to attend the 4-D theater. We invite those guests to walk straight through the 4-D theater and out to the platform if they so desire.
If you can, please send me a private message at OrlandoGuestServices@merlinentertainments.biz as there seems to be other parts of your experience that are inconsistent with our operating procedures, and I would like to make sure we are addressing these straight away.
Thanks,
Brandon

Do not come here. They have terrible customer service and make it clear they do not value customers' time, money, or respect. There is no way to get a hold of them on the phone to speak to someone directly. The automated voice system just directs you to their website, which offers no help, or tells you to email them, and even then they do not reply. If I could give zero stars I would. I always make sure I am gracious and respectful to employees, as I believe you can only earn respect if you give it. However, the employees at Orlando Eye were completely rude and disrespectful to me and other customers.
We were told that the Orlando Eye was closed while standing in line to get on the ride. At this point we had already made it past the ticket/check-in line and were standing outside to be directed into a pod. The employees were still taking drink orders and money for those drinks even while knowing the ride was closed. How does that even make sense? They didn't even make an announcement either. They just took drink orders, let the line move, and then rudely turned people away at the end.
I was looking forward to this experience, as I have never been on the Orlando Eye and this is my first time in Florida. When I tried to find out more information about when the ride would re-open and how I could possibly get my money back, the employees were extremely rude and disrespectful not only to me, but to other customers as well.
They said the ticket is good for 30 days. I will not be here in 30 days. That day was the only day I could ride the Orlando Eye. This could possibly even be my last time in Florida. It was supposed to be an exciting experience, but I only walked out with horrible customer service from their employees and a useless ticket. And to add insult to injury, I saw their employees giving refunds after turning many customers away (myself included) stating they wouldn't give refunds. What kind of service is that? I would never have known they decided to start giving refunds until I asked one of those customers, and I was standing in full view of the employees. When I went back to the counter to get my money back, I was then told I would not be given a refund since I had purchased the ticket online. Something, I might add, they ENCOURAGE. So not only do they encourage purchasing tickets online, they punish you for doing so as well.
In essence, this was a massive waste of my time and I have never experienced customer service this upsetting before. Avoid this place at all costs.

Thank you for the feedback regarding your experience at the Orlando Eye. I'm disappointed to hear about your experience; that is not the level of service we strive for with our guests. While we do occasionally have to suspend operation for safety reasons when there is lightning in the area, it is our policy to offer refunds if guests are unable to return.
We'd like to hear more about your experience - Can you please reach out to OrlandoGuestServices@merlinentertainments.biz so that we can address your concerns?
Thank you,

BUYER BEWARE !!!! We purchased combo tickets for the Aquarium & Eye . They were not running the ride due to high winds. Understandable & not a huge deal. EXCEPT the are crooks who won't give your money back. They just tell you to come back later. I have called, there is no way to speak to customer service. I tired reaching out through Facebook. I did get a response saying they passed on my information. This is a flim-flam scam operation. I worked on a casino cruise for years. When we didn't sail due to weather, we refunded EVERYONE. I want to start by saying the event i went to at the Orlando eye was easily the worst run event that i have personally attended in my entire life. I purchased a meet and greet for WWE Superstar Bayley the first day they went on sale for $35. At the time it was advertised as a meet and great..then about a week later it changed to a photo op only with a ride on the eye included....even though technically that's not what I bought, I didn't mind.
The event was scheduled for 1-4pm. We got there a little after 2pm....keep in mind WE HAVE TICKETS. So after waiting almost two hours we were told that we couldn't meet Bayley. Also, one of our friends came about 90 mins before us with his 3 year old son and he still couldn't meet Bayley.
Ok.....i have experience setting up wrestling signings and it was obvious that they over sold by several hundred but what was their excuse?? Bayley has to a scheduling conflict and has to leave...WWE will not let her stay.
NO. It's not the WWE's fault, it's not Bayleys fault, it's YOUR fault for not knowing how to properly run an event of that magnitude.
After refunds started being issued and alot of the customers started leaving (We were towards the back of the line) I started watching some of the employees (including two managers) laughing out loud. Who knows what they were laughing at but more people than just me saw this and from the perspective of the customers it looks extremely unprofessional and only adds to the frustration. We were refunded and given vouchers to ride the eye but you couldn't pay me to ride that thing after the experience we had.
Out of the 6 in our group....zero used the voucher. I don't want anything, I'm not looking to get anything. All I want is for people to know what happened because it has become clear via lack of public apologises and hiding social media comments from upset customers that you are trying to sweep this under the carpet which isn't right.
You cost me 3 hours of Wrestlemania weekend, you cost my buddy $50 in taxi fare from the airport but you cost yourself 6 customers that will never ride the Orlando eye and will continue to spread their terrible customer service experience.

Thank you for the feedback regarding your experience. We were thrilled with the impressive response from many enthusiastic fans wanting to meet Bayley - some started lining up in the early morning! We're truly sorry that not everyone was able to meet her, and are taking the feedback to ensure we do better in the future. I'm glad that we were able to immediately refund you, and if you have any further questions or concerns, please reach out to OrlandoGuestServices@merlinentertainments.biz.

Hi. How long does it takes the ride to complete? And do I need to make a reservation to ride the attraction at a specific time?

Is the combination ticket for the three attraction plus Legoland still available? I cannot find in the web site.
Written 23 June 2018
If there any chance of lightning the wheel will close and they didn't refund the full price of the wheel and combo price. They made us buy the whole purchase price of the other attraction in order the get only a $10 refund for the wheel. So no. Not really. They don't tell you that they are all separate entities and may not give you a full refund even if they don't open due to weather.

Is the 4D Cinema still operating after the name change? The branding has changed so it doesn’t say “with 4D Cinema experience” anyone. It’s a shame cause they’ve increased the ticket price (again) and you are getting less for your money!

Hola Norberto, una consulta. Cuando tiempo te tomo las 3 actividades? Un día? medio día?
Written 2 May 2018
Depende totalmente de ti. La mitad del día podría funcionar. Simplemente use protector solar mientras está afuera.

They do accept them, you can also purchase online using Groupon and other discount sites if you can't get books from hotels.

You could call and see if they have restrictions, but I don’t see any issues with any age group. Slow moving, and if they put you in your own pod, you will have privacy. There are computers that have a map so you can identify the buildings. This is only useful during the day. The lights were pretty at night, but I had no clue what I was looking at. After your ride, stop by the ice cream store in the little shopping center next door.
