About
Our founders, the Thompsons, connected over a mutual love of animals, and thereafter discovered an unknown breed of horse, developed by British Gypsies, while traveling through the English countryside. After a four-year journey to understand these horses and the culture that created them, they took part in naming them, the Gypsy Vanner horse. The Gypsy Gold Farm is home to the first 16 registered horses of a breed that's now 6,000 animals strong with registries . Their 40-acre farm is a Central Florida Trip Advisor favorite, education and cultural oasis, where visitors learn about one of the most colorful and least understood societies on earth and the magical Vanner Horses they envisioned. Farm tours are available every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at 10:00 am and last for two hours. Tickets may be purchased on our website.

Gypsy Gold Farm Tour - A Must Do Experience!!
Jun 2021
Anyone who wishes to have an excellent, informative and fun experience with horses should attend! Dennis Thompson, founder of Gypsy Gold Farm and first person to ever bring the amazing Gypsy Vanner breed to the United States, is a wealth of knowledge and history! I have been a number of times and enjoy myself immensely every time! I could listen to Dennis for hours with his extensive experiences and passion in all he does! They also have beautiful, one of a kind, tack available specific to the Gypsy Vanner! I will continue to share this experience with others and thoroughly enjoy inviting them to experience the farm tour for themselves!

Gypsy Gold an amazing experience
Sep 2021
Learned a lot about a breed of horse that we had never heard of from the person, Dennis who brought the first horse over from the UK. Entertaining and welcoming host. The horses are beautiful and very docile. They enjoyed the human interaction. The setting is tranquil. It was 2 hours very well spent.

Dennis has plans for expanding things like having a wine and cheese pavilion and interactive things for the kids and more. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone.

A special activity!
My husband and I had the opportunity to visit Gypsy Gold Farm today and enjoyed it very much! The surroundings and the horses are beautiful and amazing! The owner gives a talk about the history of how the horses came to the US and how the Farm began in Florida. You have a chance to walk around and visit and learn about the Gypsy Vanner horses. It’s a wonderful activity and special experience! So glad we went! We were there about 2.1/2 hours.

Thanks Vacation. The Vanner Horse was developed by British Gypsies as the perfect horse for their colorful wagons called caravans, vardo's or just living wagons. The word Vanner means " a horse suitable to pull a caravan in the English Chambers Dictionary so Vanner is their breeds vision word much like Quarter in American Quarter Horse . The donkeys will soon have babies and if you think adult donkeys are cute wait until you see their babies, they are living plush toys. We hope you return to see them. Warm Regards, Dennis and Erin

Gypsy Gold a must!
We brought our granddaughter to Ocala for a long weekend specifically to go to the World Equestrian Center. I called the Visitors’ Bureau to check on other attractions and I am so grateful she suggested Gypsy Gold! The setting is beautiful, the horses stunning and the owners very welcoming. We learned so much about the Gypsy Vanner history and the incredible story of how they came to America. Dennis gives a fascinating talk followed by up close and personal encounters with the Vanners as well as donkeys, mules and lots of exotic birds! Very entertaining and accommodating. They have big plans for the farm and we hope to return soon to check the progress! A great experience!

Beautiful horses, terrific knowledge, family friendly

Dennis was incredible with his telling of the history of the farm as well as his history. His wife was wonderful with a little girl that wouldn't sit still and even took my 6yr old around the farm on a quick tour while the adults got to sit & listen to Dennis. Coloring & crayons for the kids. Popcycles & water for everyone. Coffee was there as well as bug spray, hand sanitizer, wipes, gift shop, sun screen, and even benedryl if someone doesn't know they're allergic to hay or horses! They really did think of everything. My daughter got to pet the horses (only the ones that are paired with another horse), she was also given an opportunity to sit on one of them. We experienced donkeys and were introduced to his "donkey mamas". Super nice couple and didn't "rush" us off after the tour was over. Thank you for the wonderful experience!

Geez, Jimmy, your the one that thought of everything, thanks so much for your awesome review we deeply appreciate it. Please bring your child back to see the new donkey babies in September and October. We have four possibly six babies coming , two Miniature Donkeys, Two Mammoth Donkeys and possibly two Standard Donkeys are having babies. Not positive about the Standards, but fingers crossed, there is nothing like baby donkeys. Thanks Jimmy, Dennis and Erin

Gypsy Gold Farm Is a Gold Medal Experience
Aug 2021 • Family
The Thompsons make everyone feel like such a welcome guest at their gorgeous Gyspy Vanner farm! The introduction is led by Dennis Thompson....THE man (along with his wife) who discovered this breed in Great Britain within the Gypsy community and introduced the very first Gypsy Vanner horses to America. We had ample opportunity to experience the history and respectful treatment of the Romani people and the Gypsy culture as well as detailed history of the horses. Best of all...we got to meet and pet lots and lots of these gentle horses. (Bring carrots...they love them!) In addition to the horses, there are at least a dozen gorgeous parrots, mules, donkeys and even a couple Nubian goats!. The 2 hour tour is a totally wonderful immersion in the world of Gypsy Vanner horses on a working horse farm here in Ocala.
