While out of the way, Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park is easy to find with you GPS. It is approximately 5 minutes from I-75 and 15 minutes from US-41. Being out of the way, it was not crowded.
We arrived before noon and felt lucky to find an available picnic table. The best part was that there were no bugs out in January.
The trails were shaded with old growth live oaks covered in moss and palm trees. Most are well maintained grass trails and well-marked.
Along the trails we came across families with children and pets, some bicyclist and a woman on a nice horse named Fin.
It was great couple hours walking in the forest along the creek. I am glad we found this park and look forward to returning.

We went on a Saturday and it seems like a very nice place, but unfortunately it was quite wet. We tried two diferent trails and didn't get far on either. The paths were blocked with enough flooding to make it impossible to jump over or go around. What we saw was nice and I'm sad we couldn't walk along the creek.

We walked the yellow trail (1.3 miles) which took us about 40 minutes at a leisurely pace. The trail is mostly of grass - but sandy in some sections. It was a nice walk. There were a couple spots where we had to walk over a low stream - and we got a little muddy - so wear your old shoes. There was a map of the 3 trails as you enter, that we took a picture of - just in case. The trails were well marked with a few benches along the way. Most of the trail is in shade - which was nice.

We spent about an hour in Myakkahatchee Creek Park after deciding it would be a good substitute for our usual neighborhood morning walk. This park is simply beautiful, filled with huge old oaks covered by moss, ferns, and lichen. An overlook near the trailhead offers a stunning view of the creek and its clear, although tannic, water. It would have been easy to believe we were in a wild, ancient, uninhabited area. The trails were much drier today than when we were here about 10 months ago, and we had no trouble walking the wide, grassy paths. The trails are named for colors so they are easy to remember, and they are well marked. On the yellow trail, one low area had a board thrown across it to allow passage without getting muddy feet. The white trail seemed to be less well used but was still easy walking. At 8:30 AM we thought we might see more wildlife, but all we saw was squirrels. We heard many, many birds, but unfortunately, identifying birds by their calls is not one of our strong points. The park has plenty of parking and the trails closely follow the map we had with us. The restroom was a welcome amenity and was relatively clean for a Monday morning, but the profusion of flies we encountered there last year remained a serious and uncomfortable problem. Nonetheless, we will return to this beautiful, unspoiled area. P.S. Kudos to the trails’ maintenance staff. In our walk of nearly two miles, I found only two tiny pieces of trash, both of which appeared to be less than 24 hours old.

This was a nice out of the way park with relaxing trails consisting of grass and dirt. The bridges were well maintained and the park was clean.

My son's cub scout pack went here for a Saturday hike. Nice little stroll through the woods. Good exercise for everyone. Watch out for the poop as there are also horses on the trails!

This is one of North Port's best parks. Beautiful, clean natural park with miles of walking/biking/horse back trails through oak trees and along small creeks. Benches, tables, grills and port-o-toilet available.

I'm not sure. We did not see any, or evidence of any, while we were there.
