- moongatePerkasie, Pennsylvania10 contributionsAnother casualty of hurricane Ian??We were very disappointed to see the animals in small cages that were in need of repair. The smell was bad. The hurricane took its toll and if it was a great place to visit it definitely is not now. Sorry to have to say this. The employees were very welcoming which gave us a feeling that they were trying to make the best of it. We played miniature golf on the course that was in extremely poor condition but smiled and made it fun.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 October 2023
- Vacation297090352907 contributionsTaxidermy museum closedInteresting place to kill time. Free to go into gift shop, tons of things to browse/buy. Taxidermy museum was gone, sales associate gruffly told me it was permanently closed when I asked where it was. Unfortunately that was the main reason we stopped so it was a disappointing trip in that regard.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 November 2023
- David C10 contributionsAn Old Theme Park With SOUL. Taylor is an EPIC Bartender!Sometimes when tragedy strikes, you just have to make the most of it. The place has so much heart and the employees here show their passion for it. We could tell the Nature Trail and main building took a major hit from Hurricane Ian which is really sad to see. I wish we could’ve seen it in it’s prime. Nonetheless, my fiancé and I had an amazing time! The food at the adjacent restaurant and bar was simple and yummy. Not mindblowing but definitely surprisingly tasty. The sweet potato fries are KILLER. Our server, Taylor, made us some of the best orange mojitos we have ever had! She was ON FIRE making drinks nonstop with a smile on her face. We need more bartenders like her! Despite some areas being under construction and some attractions out of order, it was a nice distraction, and a perfect way to spend New Years Day. We will ABSOLUTELY be returning back to buy some of the Jim Shore collection models of Lilo & Stitch and Jack Skellington from Nightmare Before Christmas.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 January 2024

The restaurant offers decent food at a fair price with live entertainment throughout the week, however we did not eat there on this visit. We visited on a Tuesday during a flea market event taking place in the front parking area so we parked on the backside which offered ample parking at 10:30. Rather than walk down the driveway into the other parking lot we entered through the ice cream parlor doors. We were greeted by a lady who seemed a bit grumpy but did offer us fudge to sample. After browsing the massive collection of shells we exited and made our way to the entrance to the nature park. We had purchased a Groupon for four in advance which included the nature park and mini golf and I would strongly urge others to do so too. The nature park had many exhibits with animals not commonly found at zoos and was good enough to hold the kids interest. There were few empty cages and the animals appeared to be in good health. A peacock was roaming around and there were two aviaries that we walked through. We spent about one hour in the park then headed to the mini golf booth to get our balls and clubs. I’ve played a lot of mini golf over the years and this course was the worst. The brick pavers bordering the holes weren’t set close together so the balls consistently would bounce backward or sideways making the hole more challenging than it should have been. The green surfaces were in need of replacement and the hazards were often cement stumps just plopped on the course at random. If the golf was not included in the Groupon we would not have purchased it. We did not do the bumper boats or any of the interactive activities which cost extra. The Shell Factory appears to have been in a state of decline even before Hurricane Ian severely damaged the sign and other parts of the park. There is an on-site funding box for repair of the sign if you’re so inclined. I’d say it will take much more than they’re asking to get the factory back to its original state. All-in-all at the Groupon price it might just be a good alternative to the beaches, especially on a cold day.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 21 February 2024
- Crystal G1 contributionLocal family’s favoriteI’m a local, and this place has been such an important part of my life, beginning in childhood. Wonderful place, and how much it’s changed through out the years. The Shell Factory has endured. The animal park is nice, there is a fantastic fudge shop inside, and a few rides. It’s not the most inexpensive place around but not as bad as some are making it out to be. The last I checked the carousel ride only cost $1. There’s also an awesome restaurant where you can sit outside and listen to live music performances several days per week. The gift shop isn’t cheap but really, you’re probably not going to find a cheap gift shop around here. This is a historical gem in Southwest Florida, and us natives are very proud of it. There’s something for every age here, go check it out.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 25 February 2024
- Susan BMinneapolis, Minnesota95 contributionsA few fun things to do, but mostly gift shopsOutside, there's a few things to do: miniature golf, bumper boats, merry-go-round and zip line. Inside are large gift shops. There are LOTS of shells that you can purchase, in addition to jewelery, candy, stuffed animals, etc. We went with our two young grandchildren, ages 3 and 5, and felt the hour we spent there was sufficient (we did not play mini golf or go on the zip line).Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 13 March 2024
- William miami1 contributionFunIt’s looked a little run down but the people were really nice.. it looks like they are trying their best to keep it running. Animals look well fed and well taken care of. The zip line was fun.. petting zoo was pretty cool. Overall a solid place to come visit … wish I can do more to help. That place would do great with a little remodeling. Definitely recommend if you are in the area looking for something to do with the kids.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 May 2024
- Artur HSao Paulo, SP331 contributionsGood for a shell experience/shopI read the reviews before going, so I was prepared. I was in the area, so I stopped by for curiosity. They look like they suffered a big hit from Covid and Hurricane Ian, but trying to get back into the business. I love to support local business, so I always try to stop by these kinds of places. For the people that love shelling, this place has an amazing shell offering. The staff is very nice too. I didn't go to the paid attractions, so I will not comment here. I loved the experience, and I hope they get back to the business soon.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 28 August 2024

The place needs some serious help it is very run down. The bumper boats are old and worn out. The nature zoo has few animals and is not worth the money. The birds will attack you. The gift shop has everything you need to put a lovely touch on a white trash trailer park.
The only positive thing I can think to say is that the food at the grill is not horrible.

Good place to pick up souvenirs; however, most everything is over priced, but expected. Don’t plan on having a great experience at the southern grill, the restaurant adjacent. The restaurant is average we had the brisket sandwich, the Ruben, boneless wings, and Caesar salad, three people $75 plus tip.

We stopped in to see the place, and were very disappointed.
It is an old store selling touristy trinkets and shells, along with many items made in China. This place is very old and rundown and needs to be fixed or torn down. I have never seen such a large amount of over priced junk under one roof.
If the management responds to this review, I predict they will say the following:
“We will take this up with our staff”.

I want to save other families from having their day ruined! I am a normal guy with a wife and two kids. I am middle class. I go on vacations every year to different destinations. I know tourist traps, and some of them can be nice in reality.
This place? It’s a tourist trap. They want your money. Their marketing makes it look good. But it is atrocious! It’s like walking into the twighlight zone of cheap tourist traps of years past. Everything is run down. They are constantly advertising construction and new attractions, yet all I saw was a man and woman building yet another wooden shack out of t1-11.
The nature area is like the worst zoo you’ve ever been to. The aviary is mostly filled with birds you can find in any pet store. Everything is run down. The rest of the animals are in places that aren’t good habitat yet also somehow makes them difficult to see.
The gift shop is like walking into 1994. The restaurant had awful food and a poor atmosphere.
I can literally say nothing good about this place. Save your money!!!!!

Visited on a rainy afternoon on June 19, 2022. Buckets were strewn throughout the venue to collect rain leaking through the ceilings. We visited just for the gift shop but it looked like many of the other attractions were shut down due to the rain. I felt like I was going through a time warp entering this building. All of the shells, magnets, ornaments and other items looked like they had been sitting on the shelves for a long long time. The t-shirts and other apparel seemed dated and didn't go past a size 2x. The Christmas shop smelled of wet artificial trees and mildew. There was a creepy Santa that I assume was used for photo ops but I wouldn't go near it as it had a dirty red velvet pillow on him where a kid would sit. The workers seemed to stare off into space as they waited at the registers for a customer. The only section that seemed modern was the fudge shop. Bought 3 slabs of fudge and tried to cash out 2 postcards at the same time but was turned away as the fudge shop was not a part of the Shell factory. Creepy twig ballerina took the cake. Just plain odd. Nothing like it was when I brought my kids 10 years ago. Needs serious upgrades, a roofing job, and all new inventory in my opinion.

Tourist trap with broken down rides and cheap dollar store toys for tourists. I've been to this place several times over the years since I live down the street from it and it's a hot mess. The "restaurant" is a greasy diner place with reheated microwaved frozen tv dinners. Their pet park or zoo features animals that look underfed and beat up. The "shell factory" is basically a giant warehouse full of tourist trinkets and giant sea shells. North Fort Myers even has a "chamber of commerce" there that is a run-down abandoned office building office you can see into through a dirty window with no staff in it.

I attended a July 4th event at the Shell Factory which I paid $100 per couple to have access to the VIP area. Unfortunately the experience was poor and unsafe. People were let in without paying the fee, the advertised band did not play and a fight amongst the non-paying guest broke out right at our table. There was no security visible or present. I do not recommend this place for families. I will not be returning.

We took a trip to Fort Myers Beach and decided to check out this place. We walked the Nature Park with it’s menagerie of animals, birds and reptiles. Some of the animals are domesticated and we bought food to feed them. Some were shy but we were able to pet many of them. There is also a collection of wild animals such as alligators, a camel and wild cats. We also played a round of mini golf. There’s a lot to do here and young kids would REALLY enjoy it. They have a huge gift shop and also a restaurant on site called The Southern Grill which is where we ate lunch. The food was okay.

We enjoyed our visit to the store. Fun merchandise offering (both unique and cheesy souvenirs) with friendly staff. I asked my husband if he enjoyed the store and his reply was “shell yeah”……
Only downside was the fudge shop section. We tried to purchase items from the display case twice - and both times the workers made eye contact but didn’t want to help. We even said “excuse me” but they still did not assist.
Definitely recommend for vacationers when they visit the area.
We went on a day that was unusually warm so we opted not to do any of outdoor activities.

Prices range depending on what attractions you’re interested in... it’s à la carte. Be sure to check for Groupons because they usually have deals.

Is it free to do the dinosaur park, fossil park and nature park?
Does the groupon deal all activities in the park?
Written 18 February 2019
The nature park you pay to get in but that's to pay for the food and care for the live animals. Plus the housing and expenses of more trained employees for handling animals. It's great for smaller children as you can take a shorter time or you can stay and really read the information and browse thru.
