Long hidden on the fringe of Florida's Gulf coast and overlooked by developers until well into the 1880s, Naples' catalyst for settlement finally arrived forty years later when two rival railroads rolled into town within ten days of each other.

Set in Naples' restored Seaboard Air Line Railway passenger station, the Naples Depot Museum welcomes visitors back to the railroading boom days of the Roaring Twenties and explains how generations of Southwest Floridians used technology and transportation to conquer a vast and seemingly impenetrable frontier.Seminole dugout canoes, a mule wagon, antique swamp buggy, restored rail cars and exciting interactive exhibits tell the story of how trade and travel transformed Naples from a napping village of 300 souls into today's glittering Gulf coast resort.

The Naples Depot Museum is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is conveniently located in downtown Naples.

We were looking for a place to take our grandson who loves trains and the depot and train museum was a great hit. Plan ahead because the hours are limited but it is not too busy. There is a fun exhibit of working Lionel trains as well as the historical station building with more exhibits. There are train cars to... More

We stumbled upon the Naples Depot because it was near all of the restaurants and shops on Fifth Avenue. We were surprised by how nicely the exhibits are arranged and at how much was on display. The museum really made it clear that Naples has grown quickly. As a history buff, I was happy to see all of the great... More

There is no admission fee which makes it very affordable. One just needs to check their hours of operation before planning your trip!

By far, this is the best historical exhibit in downtown Naples, Fl and it is free! Where else can you go on a rainy/cloudy day and entertain the whole family! The place is chocked full of local Naples and Collier County history and the kids don't get bored while viewing the exhibits.

The historic old train depot is loaded with history -- it's own and that of the Naples area. It's not glitzy, but there is a lot to see inside and out. Admission is free as is parking. We learned a lot about Naples' boom and bust history and especially the history of train service to the area. They did a... More

The depot museum offers free admission, and although it is a small museum, there are several interesting exhibits that are very well presented. The highlight for our family was the Lionel train museum that shares a building with the depot museum. This is only open Thursday - Saturday from 10am-2pm. There is a $7 admission for adults, but children 5... More

This is just off Hwy; difficult to find entrance - lots of parking once you find it. Entrance is free - staffed with volunteers - labour of love for them. There is also (in the back) a small gage railway but check and see when its running as there must be a volunteer to run it. (11:30 to 2PM) in... More
