We were crossing from Miami and decided to get out and take a short walk on the trail. The short 1/3 Mile trail was in pretty good shape. However, the long trail was muddy and impassable. I would not make a purposeful trip here. We did stretch our legs and enjoy it. We saw no wildlife but it was mid... More

We had a friend in the know so got a behind the scene tour of the refuge. Just wonderful, we had a great day out. Everyone was very nice to meet and the intern who showed us around was a fantastic young lady. It was great to learn more about the endangered Florida Panther and to see "gators" as the... More

We walk as many of these trails as we can when we visit a region and anything we see we feel is a bonus; after all these aren't zoos nor is it Disneyland. We were disappointed here as we couldn't complete the longer trail. The short trail is well maintained and easily accessible but the recent wet weather had rendered... More

We normally enjoy these types of wilder, unguided wildlife walks since you get to see much more of the real habitat, and the animals that live in an area. However on this occasion it was obvious that the longer path was getting overgrown and hadn't been used recently. It was also quite muddy. We got about 50m down the trail... More

What you see is Panther Habitat, meaning swamp and everglades botany, we did not see a panther. Kids like to pretend around every corner ios a panther. Don't go there in the middle of summer, hot, humid, buggy

I paid the Panther NWR a visit last Sunday morning and was here very early before the heat set in. I travel around the state taking wildlife and landscape photographs so I’ve been in many of the NWR’s in Florida. Most are interesting and well maintained, this one being the exception. I really didn’t expect to see any big cats... More

We are from Australia, so it was worth taking a trip to the Panther reserves to have a look at their habitat and take a walk (which i must admit was an adrenline pumping activity for me even though our chances of coming across a panther in the day were slim) Unfortunately a fire had burnt most of the shrubbery... 1 1/3 mile walk around a circle with nothing to see other than some small ferns and bruch land. Made the effort to get there at daylight in hopes of seeing some wildlife in this fenced portion of the preserve and saw absolutely nothing but a common bird at the end of the hike in the parking lot. There are... More

We visited in December 2014. Was a nice hike. There are two tracks (we did the short track). Like others, we saw a nasty looking snake and some vultures. I don't think any panthers would bother with this area, given the size of the preserve.

I walked the 1.3 mile Loop Trail with my family. We saw what I thought was panther tracks in the mud along the trail. We were able to get a photo of a snake we saw sunning itself in the sun, in the middle of the trail. The trail was fairly dry and clear of debris making a good hike.
