The Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve represents one of the few remaining undisturbed mangrove estuaries in North America. The Environmental Learning Center is a 16,500 square-foot facility with four research laboratories, classrooms and 140-seat auditorium, and two story visitor center. The visitor center offers a variety of hands-on experiences, including 2,300-gallon aquarium and NEW Estuary Encounter interactive marine life exhibit and other displays addressing research and stewardship efforts ongoing within the Reserve, as well as a nature store, gallery and picnic area. Guided boat and kayak tours offered seasonally provide educational experiences while enjoying this special place. Check our website to see information about our tours.

Really fantastic Centre. Loads of information, very well presented with great information given by Mike and Marilyn. Saw a manatee in the water from the bridge. Really recommend a visit here.

Loved learning about the wilderness and Florida's ecosystem. Great natural beauty. My love and I also took Rising Tide Explorers kayak tour of the estuary.

A bit out of town we found in a local tour magazine. The research reserve provides a fascinating look at estuarine research in Florida and how it is being preserved and supported. Estuarine areas provide necessary filtering of water and habitat for many animals, birds,...More

Thank you for taking time to learn about rugged pioneer life and survival in "paradise" before it was paradise in our interactive historical exhibit. Our beaches and beautiful gulf waters often take center stage, but pioneer history is rich and very interesting in Southwest Florida....More

Great visit to this education center. Lots to do and learn: movie about birds, presentation by naturalist, crafts, coloring, things to read, touch, explore, listen to, watch and learn about. Morgan was so informative about the creatures in the touch tank. Great place to visit!

Morgan is the best! And, nothings better than touching and learning about the marine life in your own backyard of Rookery Bay!
