Peculiar sight, super different and unique being in Armenia as Jewish aspect of it beautifully situated by the river. A short visit but close to other sights.

Given the fact that this is one of the oldest jewish cemeteries in the world, it was fun to try to find it (it is not easy, as there are no signs) and see it. I wouldn't take a detour just for this, but we were passing by after a visit to the Selim Caravanserai.

Who'd have thought of an (obviously Jewish) graveyard in the Armenian countryside? You drive through the village, park by the side of the road, and walk down the farmtrack, over the narrow walking bridge and there it is. Very atmospheric place. Enough information to be impressed. We were the only people there.

What a surprise to see a Jewish Cemetery in Armenia a country which was not known to have any Jewish residents. The newest grave appears to be dated 1348! Where did the Jewish people go? A visit to this sight is recommended.

If you are lucky enough to be staying at the wonderful River House Homestay, this is just at the edge of their property and is a nice place to visit.

We combined this visit with some other fascinating attractions in the area, but it certainly merits a visit on its own. The location is beautiful, the village next to it is interesting and the mystic history of this unknown Jewish community is captivating. Cross the small bridge and for a bit. You will know you are there once you see the blue door with the David Shield on it. Detailed explanations in 6 languages!!

The cemetery is 800 years old and has been opened for 80 years. The Jewish community disappeared then.
Several tombal stones have been well preserved, interestingly sculpted.

This somehow hidden cemetery is one of the most uniques place you can visit in Armenia or all over the world. If you happen to be around, go and visit. The history of the cemetery is explained on different signs. Much of its history is not known until today, which makes it an outstanding experience and you start to create your own stories to it. The setting is marvellous, a natural beauty.

It's an ancient and small jewish cemetery in a small area under a huge mountain. A place of absolute peace and meditation. The inscriptions contain old Jewish funerary language and biblical verses.
