Total disclosure: I do not take OPERA lightly. I moved to Miami after almost 20 years of subscribing at the Met, where I experienced magnificence and magnificent failures. The fact that I feel free to compare my Met experiences with my FGO experiences should tell...More

I want to add that I saw a superb production of The Pearl Fishers with the FGO last year. In January, I saw the much raved about production at the Met. As I had expected, The Met was bigger,( more people) and grander ( great set) and more spectacular ( fabulous special effects like a tsunami rolling in almost on top of you). But was it better than the FGO? No. I found the FGO production much more moving, equally well sung, and much less busy trying to give a simple tale unnecessary relevance.
