Long famous for its Key Marco Cat- one of the most remarkable and influential discoveries in North American archaeology- the new Marco Island Historical Museum explores Southwest Florida's Calusa Indians and bring this vanished civilization to life with informative displays and an exciting recreated village scene. Temporary and traveling exhibits trace the settlement of this subtropical island paradise from its early pioneer roots as a fishing village, pineapple plantation and clam cannery, through its explosive growth and development in the 1960s by the Miami-based Deltona Corporation.

Plenty of well-displayed artifacts, timelines and narratives enlightening the visitor about native peoples, early settlers and particularly development over the past hundred years. Especially enjoyed the short film covering the same, as we were curious about how the extensive development of Marco Island came to be in the past 50 years. Content is suitable for a visitor choosing to spend... More

Though small, it has much information about the history of the island. Beautiful new mural windows picturing parts of history.

I can't believe it took me so long to visit this little gem. There is an award winning walk outside with a printed map to help you identify the flora planted there. Inside are welcoming volunteers who answer any questions you may have. One of them even walked through the new Art room with me and gave me a lot... More

We allowed only 1/2 hour to visit this Museum, and needed more time to take it all in. The history of the island is explained very well, with realistic diorama. From the natives who settled here, to the island expansion of the 60's and up to the present day, it's all there. Well worth the modest fee to get in.... More

Saw the article in the paper about the doors and windows exhibit and decided to go. It is all outside and protected from the sun and rain. It describes the history and development of the island. Quite interesting.

We spent a couple o hours in the museum on a "non beach" day, The staff was very friendly and the gift shop had many lovely items priced reasonably. The admission cost was any $ donation that you wished to make.

We visited the Marco Island Museum in February while on holiday on the Island. This was our fourth visit to the Island but our first visit to the Museum. It was really worth the time to go there. The exhibits had been put together brilliantly. You really felt like you were going back in time. Now when I look out... More

Very interesting and informative. A must see museum. It's small but full of the wonderful history of the island. The artifacts and information about them are well written and display beautifully. They have a small gift shop with wonderful children's books, jewelry, and other lovely gifts.
