Historic atmospheric theatre - Loved its 1920's architectural elements & old world charm. We sat in the mezzanine for a live show & the view/sound was terrific. It has surprisingly comfortable seats too. There's a small parking lot in back. The theatre is located within walking distance of several restaurants, which makes for a nice evening of dinner & a show.

I went to this theater as a child. It is as elegant now as it was then. The group responsible for its preservation has done a marvelous job. The night we attended, the movie was preceded by live organ music. The acoustics are great as is the ambiance. Go early for your $8 movie and walk around - especially in the balcony level lobby.

The Polk Theater is an "atmospheric" built in the early 1920s that has been lovingly restored to it's original glory complete with clouds at dusk giving way to stars in the night sky soaring above facades resembling an Italian renaissance courtyard. The multi-use facility even featured a young rock-n-roller by the name of Elvis Presley in 1956 long before the Vegas Elvis most of us remember. Now this grand dame of a movie palace comes alive every week with classic films and art house fare. Whenever you're near Lakeland you won't go wrong checking out the Polk Theater.

Beautiful theater, not ADA friendly, no elevators, lots of stairs. Seats are very close together, no leg room. Will not go back, this was our first and last time. Had to leave early because pain took over legs, air conditioners did not work, very hot.NEVER AGAIN, waste of money

We went to have a night out with friends. The evening started with a skit depicting the assassination of President Trump. They cannot let anyone have an enjoyable night. The facility is old, smells of mildew, and probably violates all ADA rules. My son said he saw a mouse run across the floor. Speaking of the floor, there was so much spilled soda on the floor it felt like glue on our shoes, disgusting.

A friend and I recently visited the Polk Theater.

Parking was free and easily accessible behind the building. The doors opened promptly at the correct time.

Staff were friendly and helpful.

The interior of the theater was very beautiful, reminding me of the Tampa Theatre, complete with an organ.

I wished that popcorn had been available, but since we were seeing a concert and not a movie, I didn't find this too unusual.

All in all, a very pleasant experience.

I have been to the Polk several times. It is a gem of a small movie palace. It is an atmospheric theater with stars twinkling in the "sky" and the feel that you are sitting in an Italian courtyard. The theater is equipped with a theater pipe organ used before some shows and to accompany silent movies.

This theatre was built in the 1920's and has been kept in it's original historic style. It hosts a number of events throughout the year, from dinner and movies on the weekends, to Rocky Horror Picture show every year at Halloween. It has a great balcony setting along with a snack bar. This place is a great date night or to come with a crowd of friends. Always a good time at this theatre.

A friend and I went to the Polk Theater to see Gone With the Wind and thoroughly enjoyed it. The theater which was built in the 1920s is well-maintained. We were surprised to be treated to a live organ concert as we entered. This is a real gem and well worth a trip to take in an event or movie.

The Polk Theatre takes you back to a long forgotten time. When people wore suits and dresses to a theatre, and that was a "jolly good time". Visitors will be pleasantly surprised. You must keep in mind that this venue is run, maintained and managed by Volunteers. They work hard to preserve history and maintain a quality venue. No, everything is not perfect. You may see a flaw on the wall, or if you really look hard (we did), a seat that's imperfect and set off to the side for repair.

That said, the ambiance is so far removed from today's cineplexes, and national chains. It's a pure pleasure to be in. The screen is big enough from nearly any seat. The sound quality for a movie is average. Seats are comfortable and abundant, and beyond stadium style, so you don't have to be concerned with who sits in front of you. The concessions are extremely well priced, popcorn is fresh, but a bit salty. Staff is loaded with information and very helpful.

I would recommend the Polk for families, or adults looking for a great time out. They offer movies, and live performances, and depend on attendance and donations for their survival. A worthy trip you'll want to take more than once.
