We drove around on a Saturday afternoon looking for stuff to do in Lake Wales. We thought the town was cute but really nothing to write home about. The paintings on some of the buildings was awesome.

The tallest building in this historical city is waiting for a new life. Centrally located in the heart of the city. US Post office and other institutions are centered around.

Just off the main srtreet are a coouple of side streets clearly labeled as an Historic District. It has the feel of old time Florida. The Grand Hotel is closed but hopefully someone will revitalize it and give it new life.

We've visited downtown Lake Wales numerous times. It's a fairly shabby downtown with numerous struggling businesses. Sometimes there are farmer's markets in season or other special events.

For a historic town it's inner city is ok, nothing really to pull you into town, the other half of the city is run down, old homes and not recommended for nightlife

Downtown Lake Wales is again thriving, and will be more so when the GRANDE HOTEL re-opens! Shops, dining, murals and great great architecture await visitors. For shops and dining, it is best to come during the week, or on the first Saturday of the month.
