The hurricane of 1935 destroyed the overseas railroad and a lot of people with it. The ashes of many of those killed are in this monument.Worth the stop.

Nice and small park. Tells the story of the 1935 Hurricane that killed more than 400 people. Interesting and a nice break.

An often overlooked stop, this monument is dedicated to those who perished when a hurricane wiped out Islamorada in 1935. There are several plaques explaining the history of the area and the purpose of the monument. It doesn't take much time, but it is well worth it. Side note: the adjacent Methodist church has some beautiful stained glass windows made... More

cool looking monument. reminds us of what other places have to live through almost every year, some have it worse for sure, but you shouldn't pass this up. nothing crazy but either way nice to stop by and take some pics.

Would recommend reading "Last Train to Paradise". Excellent book capturing the devastation of the 1935 Hurricane and the development of the East Coast Railroad and Keys Highway

It is history and memorializes the tragic storm but it's just a monument with little information , but it does represent those who lost their lives and vets that fought for our country

We stopped at this monument and it was very poignant . It memorializes the tragic results of the hurricane that struck Islamorada , killing hundreds and resulting physical damage . A sad and compelling story.

I am very glad this monument exists, however, I wish there were more information. Take a look, walk around, then do some more research on Wiki. It is a story worth knowing and telling.
