Really enjoyed going to the park for the sunset, it was much less crowded than Mallory Square with the same beautiful view. The fort was interesting, but a half an hour or so was plenty of time to see it.

The Park has good facilities and good views. When the cruise ships are moving out to sea, they loom large and near but pose no risk. The major shipping lane goes along one edge of the park. The best feature we found was the snorkeling. There are piles of rocks just offshore. They are a surprising mini-reef-like feature. One easily... More

The center of the park is the fort, which is very similar to other 19th century American coastal forts, but worth an hour. In my opinion, the beach and sunsets are the real reason to come here, away from the hub-bub of Mallory Square. Just be prepared to move along once the sun is down. Oh, and except for a... More

Of course Key West is not a very beach-y island. Fort Zachary has a nice natural sugar sand beach. The further east you go the more rocks you will pick up. Be sure to take a quick spin around the old fort before you go.

Walking around Key West and saw the sign for Fort Zachary Taylor. Decided to walk down to check it out. First it is a little further to walk then it seemed. Maybe a 1/2 or 3/4 mile at least from the entrance. Fort was interesting with civil war era restored cannons. Nice to see but it didn't take long to... More

If you want to watch the sunset somewhere quieter then this is a great viewing point only visited by locals. You can sit on the rocks watching the boats go by and wait for the perfect sunset. As its a state park it costs about $5 for entry but lots of parking and picnic areas with bbq's. Well worth it!

Go when it is not that not and humid to enjoy this very interesting Fort. Great view of the island and a lot of history and stories along the way

On a very hot day my hubby and I rented bikes and rode here as our first stop of the day. We visited the Fort first and were virtually the only people there, making it a delightful place to wander as a couple. After a thorough walk and many pictures were taken, we got back on the bikes and rode... More

Nice break from the caos. a step back in time when things were not so easy. Really worth the trip and they continue to open more of the area.

One of the few beaches on Key West. Pretty area but not a large beach. Went back later to seethe sunset there. Crowded but not as much as Mallory Square and much more low key. Very enjoyable!!!
