Great informative tour
Oct 2021
Free ranger led tour of the fort and its history. Amazing history of the building, the guns, the technology, the strategy. Our guide was entertaining, pleasant, knowledgeable. Piqued my interest to look up other facts later.

Zachary Taylor Beach Key West
Oct 2021
A nice park to get away from some of the crowds around Key West. Yes, it's still a busy beach, but there are areas where you can get away from them. It costs a few dollars to get in, even if you walk or ride a bike (that's part of the reason for 4 stars). Also, the beaches are VERY rocky, so make sure you bring a good pair of water shoes. You'll definitely need them *the other reason for just 4 stars). But, it's close to downtown, right in the middle of the U.S. Naval Air Base. The best little beach (sandy) is at the end of Simonton, but it's VERY small with limited parking, so unless you can walk there, or ride a bike, there may not be room to park.

All roads lead to the beach

Our daily bike ride always ended at the State Park. Beach was beautiful. They have a cafe and restrooms. $2.50 per person on bikes.

Loved the fort, the views from the fort and the beach.
Oct 2021
Although we went there to visit only the fort, we ended up spending sometime at the beach. Wish I had come prepared because I would have liked to spend more time at the beach. I did pick up some trash while I was there.

Relaxing morning
Dec 2020
We did beach yoga out at Fort Zachary on the beach - it was really nice and relaxing. The beach area is calm, and the clean. It is a little more shelly than sandy, but that's how the Key's beaches are. Great morning on the beach & enough space to walk the beach & wander around the fort.

Big Disappointment!
Oct 2021 • Friends
Rockiest beach ever. There were so many rocks on the beach and in the water. Very little sand. Very disappointed. Would not recommend.

Great Beach!
Sep 2021
Went for the afternoon in late September 2021. Plenty of parking, fantastic beach. They have a concession stand, bathrooms, umbrella, chair, raft ect. rentals if you need them. There are also plenty of picnic tables and grills around that are free to use. This is probably the best beach in all of Key West for swimming, my only suggestion is to bring water shoes as there are a lot of rocks ect. along the shoreline.

We unfortunately did not bring any but we still enjoyed swimming none the less, it just would have been easier with the water shoes.

If you want to get some sun / beach / ocean swimming time in, this is the place !

wonderful beach, and historic fort
Oct 2021
we loved our time at the beach and touring the fort. The beach is stony (at least most of it), but the water was wonderful. There are beach chairs and umbrellas available for rent at a price, but there are free picnic tables in the shade if you get there soon enough.

Great place for a sunset
Sep 2021
Not the trendy or high energy place to catch a Key West sunset, but this small, accessible park offered a beautiful and tranquil setting to just kick back, relax and enjoy the sunset. Dozens of boats crisscross the water on their sunset cruises and the people in the park were friendly but everyone kept to themselves and their groups. The park is a little bit of a drive off the main roads (about 5 minutes) and the entry fee was $6. Appeared to have a nice beach and good water access, maybe the next time we visit Key West we will take a day trip.

Small but unique.
Jun 2021
We went briefly to the beach only. Although others mention a cost, I did not see any place to pay.
As for the beach, is it the best sand in Florida? No. Even Smathers on the other side of Key West has better sand. But...the view is great. People watching is also better here.
A nice thing this place has, that other beaches do not have, is a small area between the beach and the parking lot consisting of an area shaded by small pine trees. If it gets too hot, this gives one a respite from the heat.
The restrooms are clean and have easy access, even for handicapped people.
The beach itself is rather small, but adequate. Iguanas are present in the pines. I saw two in the brief time we were there. But if they freak you out, don't worry, they quickly scurry away when they see humans.
