The boat was overloaded for the size of the viewing area. This reef had little color and the class and light and depth showed little. The boat moved too fast to focus. 45 min each way and maybe 20 min of reef viewing.

This is one of those old Keysey legends that everyone knows about but not many have been to. It's a green lagoon oceanside that's been blocked off and somewhat protected. Unfortunately, that has also caused the silting problem to get pretty bad.

That said, it's got so many amazing businesses operating within this Undersea Park. First, there's Jules' Undersea Lodge, a submersed hotel underwater (~21 ft below the surface) that can only be accessed via scuba diving. It sits in the far back corner (look for the bubbles). The lodge is fully equipped with a shower, bathroom, beds, coffee machine, wifi, and pizza delivery (sometimes by a free-diving mermaid, if you're lucky!). Jules also has a small garden underwater growing actual living plants! It's rad, and the goal is to show that we can harness the underwater world and natural condensation processes to grow food to feed the masses. Next to Jules is my favorite dive operator in the keys -- Island Ventures! They're "Stress free diving!" motto is so true. Every trip out with them is full of excitement and joy, even if it's choppy seas and cold weather. They live and believe that the worst day on the water is still better than the best day in the office, and it shows. Finally, there's Marine Lab, a cool educational outfit with old undersea laboratories on site for viewing.

The land leading to the underwater park has lots of random underwater memorabilia (like a shark from an old Shark Week feature coming through the fence), Old escape hatches painted to show Hurricane Irma's damage, and old school research laboratories. Underwater, there's several structures within the park (long tubes, big oil drum, etc.) that staff will tour you around to see.

Wildlife that's been seen in the underwater park: manatees, fish, moray eels, jellyfish.

Fun to dive and a great place for after diving picnic. The Gift Shop is a super place to pick up handmade, local items for gifts (locals, check it out for super gifts) souveniers and cool beach towels.

Visibility is not the best and gets worse if anyone stirs up the bottom. There are platforms to help with this when working with students. It is great for training dives if you don't want to pay for a boat, rough seas or finishing up some pool work. Not worth the entrance fee for certified divers on days the weather prevents the boats from going out. Way too many students in the water. Like 80 people in that small area. This is where everyone goes to train during bad weather. The gal that runs the place is super nice. She gives a thorough briefing of the site and history. She goes out of her way for her guests. Not only for our group, but I witnessed her going out of her way for other guests and on one occasion she went above and beyond and then some. On a good weather day it is not crowded and it is worth checking out. Pop your head into the moon pool. We saw a manatees that likes to hang out there during one dive. We only used this for training and it was a life saver. We were here during the tropical storm Alberto. Weather was awful. Managed to get everyone finished up. Vis is the only reason this lost a star. Closing hours shown on website is the time everyone needs to be out of the water and have any rental gear returned.

We signed up for the glass bottom boat tour this trip. It was well organized and a comfortable ~ 1/2 hour ride out to the reef (similar area that the snorkelers go). After arriving we moved closer to the glass bottom windows while the Captain maneuvered us around the reef. It was a cloudy day which made it a bit harder to see. We saw a variety of fish, several sharks and a turtle. They offered sodas & a few snacks for sale onboard.

Have taken a few snorkel trips here over the years, the most recent last month. Have always enjoyed it immensely. There has been some damage to the reefs from hurricane Irma, but things seem to be coming back really well. Highly recommend.

Did the 2.5 hour snorkel trip - it was great! Lots of beautiful fish and coral, and saw a huge spotted rays and some sharks (a little too close for comfort for me, but they were friendly). Definitely recommend this!

We booked the 2 1/2 hour snorkel trip. Captain Brian was great (as was his assistant but I can't remember his name. We saw the beautiful reef, full of colorful fish, conch, coral, etc.
