    Great little park!
Happened upon this little park with some great animals! The history behind this park is so interesting! The staff in the discovery room were very knowledgeable and friendly! We saw Lou the hippo, manatees, deer, tons of birds, and many more animals. The weather was hot and a bit humid so the animals were feeling it too, but we got to see them all! The park is beautiful and well kept! Nice little find!

Good half-day or Florida history and exotic animals
Not much to do in the way of activities. We took the river cruise to the animal viewing area, then rode the tram back. We explored most the park in less than 2-hours. No swimming allowed in park. Worth a stop to check it off the list.

    Great family visit
Our family of young adults and one teen spent about 3 hours there. We very much found the walking to be easy, paths well marked, and a the range of animals very interesting. We especially found two of the staff/volunteers very helpful and knowledgeable with all of our questions, George and Sue. George shared it was his first day providing information and he did wonderful. Sue conducted the manatee presentation and fed the manatees while answering tons of questions. If you have a group who may want to ask lots of questions, the staff there were very informative. Great place for all ages.

Caring for Floridian Animals ..and Birds with daily feeding stations.
Always a good time at this park. Many animals in their rehabilitary areas . Lots of informative little "talks" throughout the day. All animals are Native to Florida....Except, LOU, a Former movie & TV Star...a Hippo. made an honorary Citizen of Florida by then Gov, Chiles.

Went this time to see wild manatees
We have been here before but not in Manatee season. We had a minor boat snafu....motor stopped working...they immediately put a worker on board fixed it...but then they made sure another boat went with us ahead in case something else happened. We got to the park a bit later than we wanted but still had amply time. The "zoo" part was very nice. The "manatee" part was very nice. Not as many wild manatees as I would have thought but that is Mother Nature. The price I thought was a good price for what you see and do. The nice thing is all native animals except for Lou the hippo.

A nice little stop with native Florida animals (and a Hippo too!).
A nice little stop that was affordable, didn’t take a long time to see but we saw a lot of different kinds of birds, animals, reptiles and of course Manatees! The Black Bear was huge and the Cottonmouth was enormous, he must be 6” across his back! The animals all seemed to be well cared for and healthy. The trail to see everything was just over a mile long so it’s very do-able.

This is the best place to see the manatees! You can also see other diverse animals and learn from the staff about the whys and whats of everything. They would be happy to answer your questions! I did the Tram and boat ride to and from there. Very enjoyable I’m sure I’ll be back someday.

Saw more manatees than we could count!
We wanted to see manatees but not swim with them. This was recommended to us and it did not disappoint. It is a beautiful park and we saw more manatees than we could count. We saw them right up close too. There also was an area where they had an injured manatee that we could see. There is an underwater viewing area that we saw many schools of fish. The walk was beautiful and not crowded. There was a snack bar area as well as a gift shop. The admission fee was only $13 and that goes back to help with this facility. I will definitely be going back and taking others to see this amazing park.

Definitely worth a visit! Exceeded expectations!
This place exceeded all expectations I had. It is a beautiful park and definitely worth a visit! When you buy your entry ticket, there is an option to take a tram or, for $3 more, to take a boat to access the park. Take the boat! It is a lovely 15 minute ride through beautiful streams where you may see some wildlife and, of course, beautiful trees, flowers and scenery. It’s so calm and relaxing. The boat captain provides educational background information about the park. The facilities at the park are much more extensive than I realized. There are extensive walking trails overlooking beautiful springs where you can see fish, turtles, manatees and so many birds. There is even an underwater observation room! This park also serves as a rehabilitation center for wildlife and, as such, there are quite a few exhibits of native Florida wildlife, such as Florida Panther, Key Deer, Flamingos, Alligator, Crocodile, Owls, Pelicans, Red Hawk and even a Bald Eagle. The star is Lu, the Hippo, who is not indigenous to Florida but was made an honorary citizen of the state! There are snack bars and a gift shop, too. Plan to spend at least two hours here!

Great way to see Florida's wildlife up close!
For only $13, this park is a wonderful place to visit to see wildlife, both captive and wild ones! I had wanted to stop by here for birding and as another chance to see manatees. While I was looking to buy an annual pass as I was visiting other parks, unfortunately, this park does not sell them on the weekends, so be aware that if you are looking to buy one, do it either online or at another location. There are two parking locations: one by the visitor center and one at the entrance to the wildlife park. As I parked by the visitor center, I could've spent $3 to take the boat tram but took the free tram instead, which was still a nice ride as it drove through the Pepper Creek Trail, a birding trail that you can also walk on. The wildlife park itself is home to many native Florida mammal, bird, and reptile species. Most of the animals there were unreleasable due to injuries or being initially raised as pets. The trail has you right up next to the animals, but they do not appear stressed at all. There are some great informational signs and enthusiastic volunteers who are eager to tell you about the park and its animals. While there were no wild manatees present in the springs during my visit due to the warm weather, there were some rehabilitated manatees that I was able to see being fed. There were lots of wild birds present, although it was hard to tell sometimes who was wild and who wasn't! While I didn't eat there, there is a snack counter within the park and a small restaurant at the visitor center that appear to have decent prices. If you are interested in seeing the springs by kayak or boat, there is no way to access the spring from within the state park. There are places outside the park and numerous boat tours that can give you access.

Went to this zoo after hearing about it while staying in the area. We were told we could get 10% off with the people we were staying with but before we even had a chance to explain ourselves the receptionist was foul and rude. The first thing you see when you get into the park is a depressed 60 year old hippo. The enclosure is tiny and unsuitable for a hippo. Further into the park there are wild cats who have nothing on their enclosures to entertain them. They have gone mad pacing back and forward. All the enclosures are full of vultures making it harder to see the animals that are advertised here. We watch the feed a manatee talk and were left feeling extremely upset they squashed 3 full sized manatees into the tiniest pool I’ve ever seen just go chuck lettuces on top of them. Would not recommend going to this zoo at all.

Always on our to do list, 2 hour nice drive from Davenport, last visited 2008. The boat tour from car park to main visitor centre is worth the extra $s, winding through the creek saw turtles & other wildlife, boat driver g8v8ng history of park.
Once inside there is a circular walk & we saw the manatees, gators, birds etc.
It was Sat 28th so unfortunately the boats moored at marina on edge was having an event, blasting out music, people swimming. Thus less manatees & wildlife on that side. In previous visits we have seen wild manatees there.
grandchildren 8 & 11 voted the best visit during our vacation,

Easy to get to - then take the boat ride to the actual wildlife park and it is very informative, peaceful and pretty. When you get to the wildlife park there is excellent signage to guide you so you see everything - the manatees!, the birds! (so beautiful!) Lou the hippo who is an official Florida resident as determined by the state legislature, the panthers, the bears, the snakes, the underwater viewing area where you see all kinds of fish, and if you are lucky, manatees. We saw a baby and her parent! Very special. There are also presentations periodically throughout the day on various topics - very well done. All creatures are native to Florida with the exception of Lou the hippo and if you take the boat ride you will hear all about how that came to be. Really for a small park it is very diverse and well done. For those who need it, wheelchairs are available. There is a little cafe there too as well as a gift shop. This is a park for all ages. When you have seen it all you can take either the boat or a tram back to your car. The price is very reasonable and you can get a coupon online but you need to print it out.

I would highly recommend adding this wonderful park to your itinerary regardless of the ages of your party. This was our first stop in our visit to the area and it was the perfect way to be introduced to the wildlife of the area. I would recommend paying the extra for the boat ride (relaxing and informative) but found all the trails and features very accessible. I would also recommend going early in the day. As we we were leaving around lunch time, it was very crowded and we were thankful we had started the day early. They animal ambassadors all seemed very well cared for and the personnel we meet were all very knowledgeable and environmentally conscious.

We are so humbled to be able to spend time with some of the amazing creatures that are so very endangered. We went to several educational programs, and not only learned about those animals, but ourselves and how we must conduct ourselves to be better stewards of the planet. To see the species in a well taken care of refuge is terrific. This is not a "petting zoo". Here the animals, fishes, birds, even native plants are treated with respect, and the ones that cannot be released are truly ambassadors for their breeds. This park promotes all aspects of human and animal connectivity. All of the caregivers are impressive and inspiring. This is an all day event to really absorb the environment that is teeming with beautiful life!! Very family friendly, great for ALL ages!! Wonderful $$$ value!!

We had no plans whatsoever to stop; here but just walked in to do something as we had no plans. They asked us if we wanted a boat or a tram, we chose boat, which is $3 extra per person. They shuttled us onto a boat and it quickly filled up. After a short but informative ride that reminded me of the Disney Jungle Cruise. We looked at the map and at first thought this would be a walk around a path looking for animals but no, it was basically a zoo but not so urbanized. This “zoo” had alligators, manatees, owls, birds, deer, a Florida panther, and every otters. They also had a Hippo named Louie who was 63 years old, he was the reason this park formed. Anyways, it is a fun stop to stop at if you want to burn some time and see some animals. Costing less that a traditional zoo it is still a good stop to stop at.

We were supposed to swim with the Manatees but it was 39 degrees in the morning so we decided to go to this park instead. The admission was only $13 and everyone in our party thought it was worth it. There was a hippopotamus, lots of alligators, manatees, many birds and other exhibits. There is a center for children to do some hands on activities and an underwater viewing area. There is a boat ride you can take. We saw many manatees in the river.

Our first time at the park was about 25 years ago. This trip did not disappoint. People complain about the cost at $13 a person but The park does important work by rehabilitating injured animals, I’m happy to pay that price. The grounds are beautiful and we visiting the first week of March, we were about to see about 15 wild manatees in the Homossassa River.

It was a lovely January day in FL. I always love visiting Lu, the hippo. He doesn't disappoint. The birds' areas were a bit funky smelling, but the birds were awesome to see, especially the eagles, owls and exotic birds. It's helpful to know that this is wildlife refuge for injured animals, NOT a zoo, before you go to set your expectations appropriately. They provide a great service for these animals!

Black bear, Florida panther, red wolf, golden eagle, manatees, and many gators. Also nice to walk through the aviary. The tram and boat will transport you the west entrance if you follow the apple map to the main park entrance. Also, the park price was prorated for us around 3:45 since the animal shows were over. The Fishbowl experience was interesting as well.
