A visit to the home of the Pulitzer prize winning author of "The Yearling" does not disappoint. Do read that and her book about this community "Cross Creek" before you go so that you can get full enjoyment from your trip. It's all there in...More

The minute the metal gate swings open, you understand why the New York author chose this quiet homestead to immerse herself in the culture of the countryside, and write about the life so distant from the one to which she was accustomed. She totally acculturated,...More

This is an inexpensive, low-key attraction, that is best enjoyed by adults. The house is small, and might feel crowded to children. Should take about 1-1/2 hours to tour the house and grounds. The period decor (consisting of a full range of household artifacts) is...More

Took some time to visit here and it was worth the trip. They encouraged us to pick some fruit off the trees and sample it. Its worth the few bucks they charge to do the tour. It's a beautiful piece of property that is well...More

It's about an hour or so.
Pet friendly hotels nearby? Or campgrounds?

Those kinds of facilities are in nearby towns. Gainesville has excellent hotels and there is a campground is Ocala. The park itself is boat friendly and pet friendly. The house & nearby grounds are historic and modest.
