Great place to see the amazing wildlife in the area, up close and personal. Wild hogs, wild horses, birds of all kinds and of course, alligators and lots of them. Every season brings a variety of birds and blooming flora. Several trails to choose from, La Chua trail is the best for a short hike packed with lots to see.... More

If you are willing to walk for 3+ miles, if you like natute, if you are not afraid to watch alligators this is a cool place to go. Bring your good camera and binoculars you may be able to see some wild horses and buffaloes. No facilities just a open trail.

Great walk while viewing alligators, many birds and if you are lucky bison & wild horses. One of our favorite memories from our stay in Gainesville.

Great trails for hiking or biking. Great chance to see wildlife. Not too strenuous. Bring binoculars to view prairie.

I regularly visit state parks all over Florida and usually do research prior to my visits. That being said I knew this was going to be a "nice" park. What I found far exceeded my expectations and made wish that I had better prepared so that I could take advantage of some of the longer hiking trails. The park is... More

The LaChua trail from the north entrance is home to alligators, numerous birds, bison, and wild horses. If you go to the main south entrance and Visitor Center, you find exhibits about the Prairie and an observation tower. The entrance fee from the main entrance covers the north entrance also.

Just south of Gainesville, Fl on US 441. Usually a big gator sitting under the Boardwalk and a Osprey nearby. The real magic is to watch a spectacular sunrise on a clear morning. The State park a few miles further south offers camping and hiking trails.

Great place to go relax, and take in the scenery. The signs are there for a reason, and don't forget you camera. Great for pics!

I went camping at Paynes Prairie and it was a great experience. They offered firewood for $5 and had facilities that were easily accessible to our campsite. The trail itself was beautiful and I loved witnessing wild horses up close like I was able to. There was a downside as it rained while we were there but I still really... More
