About
Nestled in the heart of a modern downtown, History Fort Lauderdale's campus includes 3 museums that tell the story of how a wartime fort became a modern city. The campus is the largest collection of historic buildings remaining in Broward County. The History Museum, housed in the 1905 New River Inn, contains exhibits from prehistoric through present day. The Pioneer House Museum (1907) is set as if the family will return at any moment for Sunday supper. Upstairs tour Louise King's sewing room, family bedrooms with period sleepwear, children's room with period dollhouse and antique dolls. The 1899 Schoolhouse Museum is complete with period wooden desks and textbooks. Guided tours of all 3 museums begin every day at 1 PM, 2 PM and 3PM.

Great tour, great tour guide. Lots of information and took us around all the places and gave us a lot of information about everywhere we went and more. Would 100% recommend to anyone who is visiting and wants to learn more about Las Oles Fort Lauderdale and Riverwalk

Learned so much about the history of Fort Lauderdale which is so easy to lose sight of because of the pace of modern life and all the modern development.
Took the personal tour with a guide which was like stepping back in time and getting a real feel for what it must of felt like to live here 150 yers ago.
You should not overlook this experience if you want to know how Fort Lauderdale got to be what it is today.

The movie about the history at the beginning was very interesting and Greta lesson on the history of FLL. The displays upstairs bring that history to life.

The historical society is comprised of a few buildings, although only one is open to the public. It contains a film about the history of the area as well as a few comprehensive exhibits. The staff I encountered were extremely friendly. Recommended for history buffs such as myself.

The Inn and other buildings were very well maintained and interesting. A very well informed local guide gave up lots of information about the founders of Ft Lauderdale. Tip: to get the best chronological understanding of the history start in the Cromartie-King house before going to the school house.
A highlight is the 3rd floor artist's coop, with an artist-in-residence, in the old Inn...very interesting work on display.

Most interesting tour!
Our guide Daniel was very knowledgeable about the local (and Florida) history. We recently moved to the FTL area and learned a lot during the tour. We visited the three buildings and had a wonderful time!

We enjoyed all the museums and our guide, Daniel Smith, was a wealth of knowledge! We feel as though we really know the history of Fort Lauderdale now. The woman who greeted us at the New River Inn was nice too! Highly recommend!

Gilbert and Val are absolutely amazing! I toured the property with Gilbert and he is so knowledgeable about Fort Lauderdale’s history. If you like history and museums you have to visit this place.

Hi, the parking right next to the museum/house. Lots of history, I think it was the original house in the area. Across from the house, is the intercoastal, you can go for a short walk-to the left is a neat looking rest. although I don't know how good the food is.
Drinks? At night at the rest. there is a ghost/ history tour, rum running and gangsters, fun, the guide is a bit..., but lots of history. Very enthusiatic, (sp?), There is another tour also. If you like history tours, check out Bonnet House and Gardens. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Have fun. Mary
