While St. Augustine steals a lot of the historic attention in the First Coast area of Florida, Amelia Island boasts a fort that, while not nearly as old as St. Augustine's Castillo de San Marcos, is actually a lot more fun to explore. Last May, we took our kids for their first trip to Ft. Clinch State Park and spent... More

Definitely a great place to camp! The Spanish moss and over arching trees were beautiful and gave our spot a very cozy feel. The fort was well worth a visit and there were lots of trails and wildlife for those who like hiking and biking. My favorite part was the minimal amount of bugs! I would absolutely camp here again!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed walking through the fort while learning about the history back in the day. Watch the movie at the visitor’s center before you walk through the fort so that you can gain an appreciation of how advanced this fort was constructed, in particular the water management system. It costs $6 per vehicle to enter the... More

Enjoyed our visit. Love seeing historical sights. Wish we could have been there during a demonstration or event. Beautifully situated--pretty drive in, and great views. Was a very relaxing pace, not crowded.

This is a fascinating place to visit, especially if you are a history buff. It's not a very big place but worth the visit if you're in the area. It's located in the National Park so there are lots of nature walks in the park. The Pier is also in the park and definitely worth a visit but was closed... More

We loved this fort ($2 per person) and spent a few hours here with the family ages 6 to 56. Our kids like history and the outdoors though. It's very interactive. They allow you in almost all the rooms in the fort and most things are still authentic for the time. The drive to the fort through the state park... More

We camped here in an RV for three nights in site 48. After you arrive at the rangers station, there is a three mile drive through a tunnel of beautiful old oaks. The campsites were spacious and private, and the beach was steps away. There is also a beautiful nature trail that leads to the fort. The beach goes for... More

Very nice place to visit when on Amelia Island. Nice beach without the crowds. Beautiful pier but closed due to hurricane damage last fall. Fort is very interesting and a must to visit.

After seeing the fort from the water side, we drove over and decided to explore. We parked at the entrance and walked the hiking/biking trail up to the fort. It's about 5 - 6 miles round-trip. The fort is quite large and there are great views from the top and cool tunnels and dark corners to explore. In addition,we were... More
