I've been boating on the river a half dozen times in the past few months. There are lots of dockside restaurants (and bars) where you can boat up and enjoy a little local cuisine. The river itself is not terribly scenic, but if you like spending time on the water, you'll like this I reckon.
No matter which direction you go, you'll see lots of houses that could be on the old show Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous. Lots of beautiful homes - and you can also rate how nice their docks are.

The Halifax is gorgeous!!! We enjoyed many strolls along the river during our stay. The homes along the Halifax are beautiful!! I'm sure a pretty penny was paid for them. And, good for those who do get to live right on that beauty.

Actually it is an estuarine lagoon, but for symplicity we'll call it the Halifax River. As a river, it is not inherently good or bad. It just is. If you have a boat and go out on the river you will probably have fun. If your boat breaks down and you are stranded, you probably won't have fun. If you go fishing in the river and catch some fish, you will probably have fun. If you don't catch any fish and you get severely sunburned and/or bitten by crabs, you will probably not have fun. If you live in one of the big houses along the river and can watch the sunset over the water, you will probably have fun. If you are running from the police and hiding in a sewage pipe next to the river, you probably will not have fun. Swimming, fun. Drowning, not fun. It's all a matter of perspective, just like life.

This river is beautiful. It smells beautiful. You can stand on the the bike trail under the 92 bridge and see the the pictures in mosaic of the bridge supports. Just breathtaking. However, every ten feet there is a questionable character. I don't know if they are homeless or just bums, but I suspect they live on the river, in the pavilions and on the benches on the docks. You can't sit on the beautiful benches the city provides to watch the dolphins jump or someone paddling down the river because there is always a bum there with all his belongings waiting to ask for money. It's disgusting and shameful that the citizens of Daytona Beach cannot enjoy our beautiful river because scary people are allowed to live on the benches.

I have paddleboard here twice and enjoyed it both times. You can get a paddleboard lesson and time on the river for $50 or less or you can rent a paddleboard for around $20-30 from various shops along the river. Great place to spot dolphins and peek at the beautiful homes on the shore.

We took the Dine and Cruise trip on the Lady Dolphin. It was a 2 hour trip along the river with an amazing dinner for the price. It was well worth our money and time!

If you are lucky and you are patient, not only will you see absolutely gorgeous motorboats and sailboats, but you may even spy a few dolphin or manatee! It's beautiful to sit on one of the city docks and watch the river flow.
If you go north on beachside, go to Bicentennial Park...river side the park owns a fishing dock...GORGEOUS sunsets! Very relaxing and energizing at the same time. Take a minute or an hour and go sit by the water......a manatee may happen by to say hello.

The Halifax "River" is actually part of the Inter-coastal Waterway along the eastern seaboard. The Volusia County, Florida, section offers several parks and lovely bridges that arch across the "river." South of Daytona Beach, the waterway branches, with the water to the left leading to Ponce Inlet and out into the Atlantic Ocean. The right branch of the waterway becomes the Indian "River" and continues as far as Miami. During summer months both manatee and porpoise can be seen in the waters of the Halifax. In the winter months, the sea gulls return as well as many other wading birds. Sailing charters are available to enjoy the river and the waters off the inlet.

Nice marina. We enjoyed sitting by river and having dinner. I love watching the fisherman catching fish off the dock. Nice and calm and clean.

To get to the Daytona shores area, you will have to cross the halifax river by one of the bridges. There are some areas where you can stop for fishing, launch the boat into the river or just take a walk along the river. The river is beautiful and picturesque. I specifically liked the view from the Port Orange side.
