Although the trail is bumpy in places because of tree roots, the views are great. Starting at the circle of Lajeunne Road and Old Cutler road you see hugh Mansions and boats on the river. Biking under hugh trees you pass magnificent estates, Further down the road you come to Hummock Park. Worth a pedal through, then the wonderful Fairchild gardens. The trail then cuts through a stunning neighborhood and then more gardens. The Deering estate has a great road to bike on also taking you across the china bridge.

I live off this trail and never tire of walking it. The houses, the vegetation and the delicious air make it a paradise. The trail gives access to Matheson Hammock, a delightful beach plus restaurant, as well as the world-class Fairchild Gardens. This is Miami's best.

I was slightly apprehensive about biking this trail because of some reviews stating that the trail is very bumpy because of the long, winding roots of the Banyan tress on the cycling track. I am not an expert at cycling and have only just picked it up. However, the promise of old architecture, quiet trails, and some peace were enough for me to try this out. I am so glad I did. The trail is quite easy even for a beginner. Sure, the roots make their way on to the trail in certain spots, but it's hardly difficult to ride over them. The Banyan trees make this trail even more beautiful. We parked at the Cocoplum circle and rode the entire 20-mile trail (round trip). I'd recommend doing this on a cloudy day because even though the trail is shaded, when the sun finds you, it will burn you! Carry plenty of water. There is a Strabucks a few miles down the road. Get an iced tea and refill your bottles. My husband is an endurance guy, so we did the entire trail barely taking any breaks. I did not think the last few miles were as beautiful as the beginning. Maybe I was exhausted! The trail is interspersed with botanical gardens, parks, and historical buildings. These could be pit stops. The trail has some beautiful, old houses and bougainvilleas and other flowers dot the sidewalk. You cannot help but love this place!

It was a bit difficult to find the trailhead. Turns out the trail is a sidewalk along Old Cutler Rd. If you drive the street by the trail, you'll get an idea if you want to walk it.

I have been using this route which uses sidewalks, compete with banyan tree roots, wide paved paths south of Fairchild Gardens and ends up in Black Point park and continues on No 5 south to Homestead. During Jan-Feb and Mar trip south this year I put approx 70 miles week enjoying this tour through Coconut Grove, Deering estate Pinecrest, , Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay to Black Point and Homestead. This route is fabulous in the winter 70-80 degrees, with an almost constant onshore breeze to cool you and to tire you when it kicks up a bit in velocity. It is also great in the summer with the breeze keeping you comfortable, but sunscreen is a must. Many through riders going through this area on way to and from Key West. Below Black Point, the ride is on paved farm roads through miles of palm tree nurseries. When in Miami head there- rent a bike from many of the bike shops in Coconut Grove. After the trip enjoy great restaurant scene in the Grove

My sons boy scout troop walks the Old Cutler Trail once a year with many other scouts. It is a part of a much larger walk that is called The Barefoot Mailman. It is a beautiful path that can be done best by bike.

Trail starts at the Cocoplum Circle in Coral Gables. It’s free of course. Just bring your bike, helmet, drink, snacks, sunscreen and maybe even money for the little gem at the end of the trail at Black Point Marina.
Let’s be honest, the best time to do this is during Miami winters, but it’s doable any time.
My husband will go out by himself, but it’s a great time for couples or groups to ride semi-safely on the streets of Miami-Dade. You be biking through some of the nicest neighborhoods in the area and you’ll be passing some of Miami’s finest tourist attractions/family outing spots.
Matheson Hammock Park (you can also bike through here for beautiful Biscayne Bay views), Fairchild Tropical Garden, Pinecrest Gardens (Farmers Market on Sundays in the summer months), and The Deering Estate. There are several places where you can veer off the path and experience Biscayne Bay, for instance at People’s Dock next to Deering. There’s public access point just north of Thanatos Estate and more.

Was apprehensive at first because of reviews of tree roots making ride uncomfortable. It seems like they repaved the route recently and roots are not a problem anymore. A lot of the trail is under shade from banyan trees which helps in the heat of the summer. The breeze was nice and the views are great. Highly recommend this trail for bike enthusiasts.

These trees are unique, old cutler road is an experience.
Beautiful homes. The best time to visit is before sundown
So you can enjoy the scenery. Avoid rush time in the
Morning when locals are taking kids to school.
