Brooklyn, the Chamber of Commerce associate who I spoke to when I booked our seats for the tour was very friendly and helpful & I appreciated it very much. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Our tour guide Bobby was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and the processing of the sugarcane. The cost of the tour was $38.00 each and took about 4 hours beginning with a short video followed by information in the museum before departure. The bus was very comfortable with large window and while we were watching the canes being cut Bobby explained how the soil was prepped before and after cutting. It was easy to take pictures and watch the harvesters and tractors in action and then stocks being loaded into the rail cars, followed by dumping them for transport. We also got to taste the canes. We were then taken to the processing plant. Bobby also gave us information regarding the making of orange juice. Lake Okeechobee is a beautiful are to explore. After the tour we enjoyed a lunch at the local Tiki Bar.

Our favorite part of the tour was sitting out in the sugar cane field watching the harvesters and tractors do their thing right in front of us (the harvester looked like something out of a Mad Max movie) with the resulting swarms of birds looking for a snack (mostly cattle egrets with some herons). Then we went over to a railroad siding and watched the tractors dump the cane into the rail cars, took a brief tour of Clewiston, and then finished up at the mill. The mill was interesting and there was a lot more to the process than we expected, but it was a windshield tour - we couldn't walk around for safety reasons. The small bus we went on had seen better days and the A/C wasn't working too well, but luckily the day started off cool and didn't warm up too much before we finished. But because it was a small bus we were able to drive the dirt tracks in the fields.

Thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Well worth the time and cost. Bobby the tour guide was excellent and very knowledgeable. Answered all the questions we have had on the production of sugar from the planting of the cane to the refined product. Impressed that we were taken by bus inside the mill and refinery compound. Highly recommend.

This was 2 be a 4 hr tour but was about 4 1/2. Which was fine. Pur gu9de Bobby was so knowledgeable he gave us so much information on sugar from planting to shipping. Also learned history of lake okachoobee and the city of lewiston It's almost all sitting in the tour bus (24 passengers) with 1 bathroom stop and one other leg stretch. We actually drove into the sugar cane fields to watch the harvest And then to the sugar mill and refinery Well worth the minimal cost.
