Like another reviewer said, this is definitely a hidden gem. Nice hiking. We brought our bug spray, as when we went, the mosquitoes were out big time. Be sure to go at dusk and look for the bat house when the bats are going out...More

Beautiful refuge, enjoyed walking the trails with our dog and taking in the river views. Very nice wooden trails through the swamp areas. As we spent the day there we would have enjoyed a little picnic area but we made do. If you do plan...More

We drove the 9 mile loop and stopped often to experience nature. Saw lots of different birds, turtles and fish and one alligator. There was even a dirt ramp to unload your boat/canoe/kayak onto the river. Although the creeks were pretty well dried up due...More

Drove through the refuge and made quick stops but saw lots of wildlife. Touted as a birding paradise and although we saw a few birds, we enjoyed seeing some alligators, and wild boars and deer. Went in the early evening and it was delightfully deserted

Spent time driving this 9 mile loop. Road good, several viewing spots. Didn't see any birds or wildlife. Might have been the time of day.

We stayed in Cedar Key in Oct 2016 and decided to venture out beyond the island. The Wildlife Refuge was a wonderful place to spend an afternoon, saw amazing trees, wildlife and met some lovely people from all over.
