Cant say enough good things about spending 4 days covering this reserve north to south. Its a bit cumbersome moving from north to south due to the river crossing at Old Town, but dont miss the North side of the park. Shired Island on a...More

The Lower Suwannee NWR covers a very large area and probably could be reviewed in different sections (Shell Mound, Boardwalks etc). The reserve contains a very large variety of habitats some accessible, some fairly inaccessible. It should be noted that the reserve is primarily a...More

The refuge features a drive-though road with accompanying map that can be picked up at a kiosk at either the north or south end. The road connects with several hiking trails in the refuge. This is a great place for bird-watching!

There is not a lot to do in Cedar Key, but I'm so glad we made the drive! See Old Florida at it's finest. Again, no beaches here either...come to fish, boat and just enjoy the tranquil, peaceful and beautiful lifestyle of Old Florida.

My husband and I loved this area that we just happened upon during a drive! Peaceful. There was a man on the dock with a bunch of fishing poles. I suppose he was catching dinner. Busy man! You can see trails in the grass where...More

This is a favorite stop for me. For those not seeing wildlife, we must remember, this isn't Disney. You need to be up and about when wild animals feed. The headquarters itself is a fantastic stop where I always spend too much time talking to...More

We loved seeing the rookery on a nearby island! We observed a number of different birds including pelicans, and roseate spoonbills. We also learned about the clam industry.

We were disappointed that we did it see any wildlife. I guess it was too hot and not the right time of the year to see any.

I have seen more wildlife on the grounds of my community! A nine mile road to nowhere! Don't bother!
